The theory of autoimmunity in crohn's disease has been entirely discredited over the last decade, there is no self-antigen in crohn's disease, we find invasive E coli and fungi in places where there are granuloma and susceptibility genes are all related to both the recognition, and clearance (xenophagy) of bacteria and fungi. Autoimmune theory is dead.
A ton of studies have made schematics explaining how immunodefficiency, bacteria and fungi are involved in crohn's disease.
Just wanted to post some of them that do a good job showing what is going on in this disease.
