Mercaptopurine

I saw the GE today as the pentasa I'm on isn't working. He's put me on mercaptopurine at a low dose because I have a low enzyme level. I'm also staying on the pentasa and currently on prednisone as well.

Am interested to hear others experience with the mercaptopurine.

Unfortunately I developed severe pancreatitis from mercaptopurine. Only a small percentage of people react this way, so I wouldn't worry about it. I'm glad to hear your GI has put you on something in addition to the pentasa; it really only treats the surface of the bowel and crohn's affects all the layers. A lot of people take it for years and find it works very well. Good luck!
