Are all oral meds ok to take while on EEN, and will EEN possibly help meds work better?

I’m going to attempt EEN. Last time I tried it I did physically see my arthritis go down, but when I changed the fat I was using (I was making my own formula), I got worse again and couldn’t get back to where I was before. This time I’m going to try Ensure or Boost.

Can I take all my oral meds including Mesalamine, since it’s broken down in the colon? Or all that affect the outcome of EEN.

Is it possible that EEN will help my meds work better? I read you’re likely to flare after introducing food again, is that true?Is EEN just used as a bridge to help meds work?

Ds has done een many times starting at age 7 while taking other meds including 5-asa(Pentasa ), 6-mp,remicade and ,humira . Een us typically done as formula only for 6-8 weeks . He was permitted crushed ice, dum dum lollipops and table sugar in small amounts .
Depending on Gi some allow clear broth or gum .

Ds has used it successfully. He did partial een after the 8 weeks to increase weight and growth .
Once food is reintroduced symptoms can return if your not on another therapy similar to steriods .

een has been done long term for kids at 90/10 (90% formula /10% solid food ) or 80/20 with some success in CHOP studies
Ds currently is almost 17 and just does partial een
He drinks 2-3 carnation instant breakfast with normal food plus Stelera/mtx

Thanks for your reply.
Do you know if blending the formula with ice or mixing it with hot water affects the vitamins in it? I’ve been doing that with most and am wondering if I’m destroying the vitamins. Am I allowed to take a regular vitamin with it or would that affect the outcome of EEN?

You would need to ask the Gi who prescribed it
I know you can freeze formula or it loses its nutrition
I know you can serve it in a glass filled with crushed ice to help with the taste -they did this inpatient woth Ds (also use a straw to by pass the taste buds )
As far as hot water ... not sure depends how hot I guess -another doc question
We used blender bottles (woth the metal blending ball) and tap (faucet water ) so not cold or hot to mix
Then refrigerate
He did take vitamin D while in formula

Thanks. I’m doing this on my own, so I don’t have a doctor prescribing it and am not sure who would know the answer.

Thank you! I’m actually using the Equate (Wal Mart) version. Hopefully they also have a number. I appreciate all your help. 😀
