IBS/CD possiblity suspected and colonoscopy

Hi all, thank you very much for the information on this forum. Now to my question:
Since oct 20 I've been having mild but persistent discomfort/pain in my bowels and dry eye. I feel well, no fever or fatigue, blood exam was ok, stool is fine (no diarrhea, blood or anything), no weight loss, no inflammation (C protein, fecal calprotectin ok). However recently Ive been tested ASCA positive and my doctor does not rule out the possibility of early stages CD. Although he says my symptoms are typical IBS and not like anything CD would have, he recommends doing the colonoscopy. I wanted to ask if anyone with CD had a start like this (from what I've read, CD is inflammation, so it affects inflammation markers, comes with diarrhea, severe pain, fatigue etc, but maybe not in the earliest stages?) So to know if its worth doing the colonoscopy or maybe wait a couple of months to see if the symptoms go away.

Ds was dx at age 7 (he is 17 now)
Mild crohns
Very early stages
No diarrhea
Constipation instead

Blood work looked good until it didn’t (after scopes)
Scopes showed acute and chronic inflammation
Plus granulomas
Colonoscopy are part of routine health screenings
Even for healthy adults
Clean out is annoying for adults
Scope itself is a nice nap
Nothing more
Then you know

Hi Mike and welcome. Most people get a colonoscopy when they have more indicators. Depending on your coverage and where you live, GI practice and care can greatly differ. Let's say you have a proactive and cautious doctor compared to most people around the world. It is true the chances are much higher you have IBS issue, but if you want to be certain and if doctors offers a scope, why not? Its a reassurance.
Age can also be a factor.
A colonoscopy is recommended starting at 50 for cancer screening, as this is even more dangerous and prevalent than IBD. It could be a opportunity for a really good overall screening.

Hello, a colonoscopy is no more traumatising than a filling. No big deal and no pain. The worst part is sitting on the loo for hours beforehand and drinking a laxative. You will probably feel tired so best to have someone with you afterwards or plan ahead with extra shopping and toiletries.
