Flare question

I have been off prednisone for a week and a half. I haven’t had a “flare” yet. Does the support my theory that it is in IBD? My GI has taken a watch and see approach to determine the next steps.

Depends on all your good details but generally from my experience prednisone is very effective at putting a flare down. Even after stopping the prednisone I might go weeks or months before having another (depending on the severity of my active disease at the time). If your just getting started with your GI journey, start practicing patience now - it can be a very long road.

Hard to say without more information, but it sounds encouraging. Has your GI done any follow up lab work since you came off the pred? That will help identify if there is any active inflammation still there. Also, did he/she do any imaging or endoscopy while you were flared? That is usually the smoking gun, or at least it was in my case.

He did nothing during my flare except wait for weeks to order the scopes. My labs during the initial colitis were normal. I

That's strange. Not sure why they would have waited so long to order the scopes, especially if you were passing blood. Even if the reason was because of a surgical backlog, they could have at least done an MRI enterography or at minimum a CT scan to see if there was anything obvious.

Keep a sharp eye on your condition. If anything changes or appears to be going back to the way it was, I would try to see a different doctor. I had to go through several before I found one who was able to help me. One thing I've learned over the years is that you are your only advocate when it comes to getting the right care.
