Tumeric for IBD

I was diagnosed several months ago for CC through biopsies, which I suspected after having daily D for several years, and intestinal problems most of my life. I chose to be very conservative about taking medications, so turned down the meds suggested by my GI doc. I started taking daily Curcumin (tumeric concentrate) 500/mg per day a month ago. HUGE CHANGE in my symptoms. D fell way off as did gurgling and cramping. I can't be sure that this supplement is truly what broke the cycle, but I'll take it. I don't use Imodium nor Pepto though have done so sparingly in the past. I am back eating salads and raw fruit, which I love. Just a suggestion.

I supplement with curcumin daily. It is indeed a great thing to take when you have IBD and I'm glad you've had such great results. More people should give supplementing with curcumin a shot.

Here is a link to a pubmed study on curcumin and IBD

Thanks Susy! I am taking straight Tumeric (1500mg) and also can report improvement in symptoms. Can you link me to the specific product your taking? I'm interested in going a little more concentrated.

Hi Suzy,

Yeah, it is mentioned elsewhere. If you use the "Search" button at the top left and enter tumeric, quite a few results will show up. It's not a super popular supplement here but I've seen more and more mentions of it.

Thanks for the link :)

Might be worth reading this article on Iron chelation, if you have low ferritin and take high doses of Curcumin (Turmeric).

Go to lef dot org and type in Curcumin in the search box at the top of the webpage. I have been using supplements from this company for years and all of their products are very high quality. There is also a very large amount of research info on curcumin and its' benefits. They also sell Jarrow products.

Suzy...

I have hot slight burning, cramps and diarrheah and sour intestines. My inflammation is mostly small intestine.

I saw a post u said that turmeric works great.
U still try it? Does it really help? Or was it placebo?
Did the MC get better in those years? What was your cause for getting mc?

I have been taking Tumeric straight off the seasoning shelf at the grocery store. I simply mix a teaspoon of powder into a glass of cold water. It looks like orange juice when mixed and despite the odd taste it is easy to swallow.

I have only been on it now for two months but the difference is like day and night. Rectal bleeding has been greatly reduced. Appetite has improved a lot and I am able to put back on some weight that I lost. I am still shy of eating salad, but my bowel movements are firmer and less gas. Overall major improvement to overall health, better than the heavy meds and the side effects.

For me Tumeric has done wonders, and if I may say far better than any of the chemical meds that are prescribed.

be very careful with Turmeric. There was a naturopath here in San Diego that killed one of his patients by giving her an IV drip of Turmeric - gave her cardiac arrest. I would only try it orally. It doesn't agree with me.

It's a fantastic addition to include in your diet because of its anti-inflammatory properties. I put a teaspoon of the stuff in my meals (rice, eggs, or chicken).
