Pain after Colonoscopy?

Hi all. I had my first colonoscopy yesterday. Upon waking I had the worst wind pain I've ever experienced. Passing the wind since then has lessened the pain but now I seem to have quiet bad pain on my left down where I would usually have period cramps. I'm having trouble walking, sitting and standing. I am passing blood but that was happening prior anyhow.
I also had 3 biopsies and two polyps removed.
Is this pain normal? How long should it last? If I have pain killers, is there any sort I should and shouldn't have?
Any help is appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

I would let your doctor know so they can decide if its normal. There is a 1 in 6,000 chance of bowel perforation during a colonoscopy but trust me you will know if that's the case.

During a colonoscopy they push air to enlarge your bowels. This would explain why passing out gas makes you feel better. It is also not uncommon to bleed after polyps are removed. You might have pain from the scope slightly irritating you if you have inflammation or scar tissue. Again, it's best to discuss this with your doctor but I would expect from what you described that the pains will go away in 2-3 days.

Thanks for your reply. It's nearly 10pm here so I will call her in the morning, hopefully I can get hold of her. I just wasn't sure what to do in the meantime. I will try a heat pack until tomorrow just to be safe! I don't think my pain is so bad I need to go to the ED (but I also thought that last time I had pancreatitis).

This is Rich, I am also with Crohn's for more than 10years in China. But one type of Chinese herbal medicine can help it. Now, I am not pain any more. In fact, I am also not believe it before. After several trials, I am really get fine.
I have edited your post to remove the suggestion that the herb can cure crohns. There is no cure but we would love to know what herb you believe has helped you. Please also do not include your email or Skype as this is against forum policy.

Most doctors have an emergency answering service. It can be that your pain is due to the polylp removal. The doctor may order an x-ray if your pain doesn't subside.
