Hi Jison.
I too get very constipated, my consultant prescribed me 3 movicol a day. That seems to keep things moving

Hi Jison,
I too have this problem. I started on Amitiza about 9-10 months ago. Low dose at first 8 mcg 2 times daily. I initially saw GI doctor because I had IBD-constipation. I likely have had Crohn's for the past year but end of August, I had a severe flare. My intestines haven't worked the same since. I am now taking 24 mcg 2 times daily. It is working better at the higher dose. I also use Miralax and docusate. I'm not sure we have Movicol here in the United States. I googled it and it's made in the UK. On Amazon but is a little pricey.

When I got told I had Crohn's, I was so hopeful my days of laxatives were over. It hasn't been the same since the end of August. Poop isn't moving out of my colon. I've had to use Fleets enemas 1-2 times a week but I think the increase in Amitiza dosing is helping. My new GI doctor also brought up colonic inertia.

DS has a similar issue with constipation and crohn's.
I can say when he is on the right Ibd meds for crohn's then his constipation issues really decrease as does the need for miralax .

Lots of juice plus fruits with "p"
Pears
Prunes
Plums
Etc ... Keep things moving
Plus lots and lots of water

Do you happen to know what name the product is sold as in the US. I have discovered that the same medication can have multiple names. It just depends on the name your country gives it.

What is the main ingredient in movicol? This might help those of us in the US figure out what the US name of the movicol product is.

Many thanks,

What test did the doc run to dx IBD w/constipation.?

Thank you to everyone in this thread for sharing about constipation with IBD & Crohn's. I have severe constipation with a ton of other symptoms such as severe dry eyes, GERD, gastritis, esophugitis, colonic dysmotility (verified by Sitzmarker test), doc said possibly some delayed gastric emptying, dry skin, yada, yada, yada. I have pain in my abdomen not only where the large colon is but where the small intestine is as well. My new GI doc said he would do a colonoscopy but not with biopsy and not right now? HUH? He said we just have to find the right combination of Rx for the constipation. So I am now on 290mcg of Linzess, 3 tabs of Senekot three times a day plus if still no BM then take 2 pills of Bisacodyl USP 5mg every other day and if that doesn't do the trick, I was told to drink one glass of Golytely.:ymad:

Any help woul be appreciated. Thanks.

Blessings,

I just want to:poop:

Hi Naturelover hope this is helpful, not sure what it is called in USA

Movicol

Main use Constipation
Active ingredient Macrogol (polyethylene glycol '3350'), sodium bicarbonate, sodium chloride, potassium chloride
Manufacturer Norgine

Shirl

I use psyllium husks (2 tbsp with oj 2x daily), and take docusate sodium (4 of them 2x daily). IF I still don't go for a couple days I take an overnight Ducolax. Usually a couple of times per week. I remain undiagnosed as my GI doesn't think I have Crohn's. I was diagnosed with it in 1995 but after a colonoscopy this year the new GI took the diagnosis away. He thinks I have IBS-constipation with multiple food intolerances.
What I've found is diet is very key to maintaining less pain and keeping things moving better. I'm gluten- and dairy-intolerant and avoid legumes, corn, corn syrup and gas-producing veggies and fruits. I also avoid beef as that tends to constipate me pretty well also.
