Skin bonding adhesive?

Hey good people of the Crohn's Forum Stoma subform :ylol2:

Has anyone used skin bonding adhesive, like the stuff you pain on your skin so your appliance sticks better (not barrier wipes).

What has been your experience with it? does it burn? Irritate skin? Is it a pain to remove? Details people! :rof:

Thanks in advance.

I have used the hollister medical adhesive spray. It's super sticky and messy. I pretty much only use that when the barrier peels on the sides. I like the Coloplast barrier wipes because they protect the skin and are very sticky to help keep the barrier in place. The Hollister one is great but doesn't protect the skin like a barrier wipe. Let me know if you want the product number.

:eek2: Which barrier wipe are you referring to? I have Brava wipes by Coloplast and they are not sticky at all and are like other Barrier wipes I've used. If there's a sticky version, please let me know the product number!

I've seen little cans of adhesive that come with a brush, similar to painting your nails, and I think those would be less messy compared to sprays. A wipe might do too.

Do you only use them for the wafer edges? I'm interested in knowing if it would help extend the wafer if it lifts from the skin around the stoma (like what happens if the pouch balloons severely).

The Coloplast ones I use are medicated and are very sticky. Product # 2041.

The Hollister spray can is #7730.

Both products are by far the stickiest I have tried and I highly recommend them for both applying under the wafer or just solidifying borders after showering etc.

Great info! Thanks. Looks like I'll be asking for samples and/or ordering some to try :ycool:

Tincture of Benzoin has been used for many many years as a skin adhesive. Surgeons sometimes still use it with Steri-Strips at the end of surgery. It is gentle on skin, but great to use with a stoma appliance. You can readily find it on Amazon.com or special order it from your pharmacy (though it doesn't require a prescription).

Yup, I've been looking into that. It can also be used for damaged skin around the stoma... I'm going to have to order several kinds and see how they work.

So I bought both the tincture of benzoin and the Hollister 7730 (medical adhesive spray). I'm testing for allergies before I apply it to my flange, so I've got a few patches of both on my skin with some Opsite flexifix over it.

For those who use the Hollister spray, how exactly do you apply it to your wafer without making a mess? And do you just let it air dry for 5 minutes or do you use a hair drier to speed things up?
