Do you see a rheumatologist?

My mother thinks that because I have Crohn's and often have joint pains in a flare, that I should see a rheumatologist. I am on Remicade and doing fine and don't believe it is necessary. Just curious, how many of you regularly see or have seen a rheumatologist?

I do but I got osteoporosis from being on prednisone too long. If you have been on pred for any extended time and have bone pain or aren't absorbing calcium or vitamin D it's worth getting a bone density scan every few years.

Hi Cookie,
My Grace see's a Rheumatologist.
I was told it's important to stay on top of even the smallest aches and pains if you have an auto-immune disease. Little can become big really fast and your don't want inflammation to destroy your joints.

I have seen a rheumatologist for over 20 years, diagnosed with lupus at the time. Did not have GI problems until 4 years ago.

Same here - DS is followed by a Rheumo - first for arthralgia - which helped get a faster dx of arthritis + treatment quickly .

If you have joint pain, even if it's Crohn's related then a Rheumatologist is the way to go. I have osteoarthritis from Crohn's and see my Rheumy on a regular basis. One of the main things mine suggests is to get the Crohn's in complete remission (no inflammation at all) and that will help reduce a lot of joint pain. My Rheumy even took over my med treatment for Crohn's because he felt my GI wasn't being very proactive. I highly recommend a Rheumatologist for any chronic joint pain.
