Hello. Partner with Crohns.

Hello all, having forum lurked for a wee while I thought I'd post.
I have a partner with Crohns, who "we thought" was in remission. Had used humira with no results on lowering inflammation, came off all conventional methods and used homeopathy which worked wonders. Inflamation came down, Iron levels up!
After a hernia operation last year his inflammation levels were going up again, eventually stopped getting bloods done. He had a hospital appointment(supposed to be 2 years ago!) last month and they tested blood and stools and have found serious on going inflammation. They are looking to CT then possible surgery.

He has no pain? The only thing he complains of is feeling a bit blocked up at times which he has been taking movicol for. He also has a stricture, he is so disheartened by this news and I wish I could make it all better but I know I can't.

How best can I support him?
And what do you all think of this?- considering there is no pain would you risk surgery- has never had surgery for it and is terrified at the thought of getting a stoma.

Hello. Just let him know you are there for him. As far as surgery goes, I would say it depends on how much damage has been done inside. Sending support.

If he has stricturing that could cause the back up he experiences. Is it due to inflammation or scar tissue? If scar tissue then only surgery can take care of it, better elective surgery than emergency surgery due to obstruction down the road.

My son has had active disease with no symptoms for some time now. In fact he required surgery during this time.

No symptoms does not equal no damage. The goal is a healthy bowel to stave off complications that require invasive procedures like surgery.

The stricture was caused by previous inflammation, and my fear is the inflammation had caused narrowing to the stricture or has created a new one- which is why he is feeling blocked. The feeling of being totally helpless is awful though, we have so much to be looking forward to, we are getting married next year and in the process of buying a house and part of me wonders- has the stress brought it on again.?

I can really sympathize with your condition, but from the "other side", as I am the one with Crohns between us. I am also facing surgery due to stricture.
Mental state ? Yes, it's a factor. But when Crohns decides to hit, it can also be while you are doing Yoga on the Himalaia mountains. Pone of the most frustrating things about Crohns is it being non-predictable...
I think the best thing that you can so is make your partner feel safe and cosy, and relate to all of this as a bump in the road that you two shall treat and move on with your future plans.
(Obviously easier said than done).

I am also terrified form the surgery and of top of that suffering right now. My partner is sleeping on my side and I find it comforting that she is here.
Try to be understanding towards your partner fears and frustration, it's not easy to be thrown out of the 'game' for months. Try to be gentle.

Anyway you coming here to ask shows how much you care, and that's really touching.

Hope your partner feel better soon.

Thanks very much, it's nice to hear how it is from the other side. It is a real nuisance how it just springs up, and your looking for a reason for it but I'm sure there won't be one. I hope everything goes well for you and your partner. All the best.
