    H's Brother

I also got terrible psoriasis about a year into Remicade, interestingly after being taken off azathioprine which I was taking alongside it, especially on my scalp and hands and it was absolutely miserable so I don't blame you for wanting to switch. I tried every other treatment (steroid creams...

    Inflamed ileum with fluid buildup

What MLP means is that unlike ulcerative colitis, Crohn's inflammation affects multiple layers of the bowel wall. With Crohn's, just going by a colonoscopy result is not always helpful because a colonoscopy cannot get a picture of every layer of the bowel wall whereas a CT scan and MRI can...

    Inflamed ileum with fluid buildup

So the fluid collection usually means infection (ie abscess) which is why I don't think it is necessarily new but probably has not healed and you needed more time on antibiotics. Probiotics would not be a good idea until the infection is gone in my opinion but not sure what your Dr told you...

    Inflamed ileum with fluid buildup

So not sure what was explained to you at the hospital but Crohn's disease is an autoimmune disease that attacks the mucosal lining of your GI tract thus causing an inflammatory response which if left unchecked leads to complications like abscess and fistula. I am assuming from the results that...

    First surgery panic

I had resection surgery in June 2020. Had a bit more removed than your son will have and had my valve and some if not most of my TI removed. Only had bathroom issues for a few weeks after surgery and since then, no real issues except for the occasional wierd movement just like anyone else...

    Food?

I agree with the above. For me I exclude certain dairy products (not all but the high lactose ones for sure but lactose intolerance runs in my family so may have nothing to do with Crohn's) and gluten (which bothered me before Crohn's so not really Crohn's related- my intolerance has to do with...

    Anticipating my first resection surgery...

I actually had an anaphylactic reaction to my first iron infusion (very scary!) so just continued with oral supplements but only three times a week since I am even slightly allergic to the oral supplements. I also made sure to increase the amount of red meat, hummus, eggs, spinach etc in my...

    Stricture Advice- Surgery or not?

Just wanted to come on here and say that I just had my post-op f/u colonoscopy on Wednesday and everything looked great! I am almost 9 months post-op and no signs or scarring or narrowing at all at my anastomosis site so we will continue on with Stelara and doing fecal cal every 4 months and...

    Anticipating my first resection surgery...

    Calling Stelara Parents

Yes, my TI and proximal ileum are where my disease has always been the worst and where my strictures developed and then the disease travels upward from there. Sounds very similar to your daughter!

    Calling Stelara Parents

@Pilgrim It took the expected 6-8 months to fully kick in (I ended up in the hospital at around the 6 month mark and then my dose was adjusted to every 4 weeks with a re-loading IV dose and this is when we really saw improvement in my fecal cal numbers). I was on steroids for about 6 weeks...

    Calling Stelara Parents

@Pilgrim I have been on Stelara for almost a year and a half and it has done wonders for me! I still ended up needing surgery because of stricturing from previous flares (I have had a few mild/moderate ones and one severe one before diagnosis and then two moderate ones due to failure of...

10 yr old being tested for IBD

@sidoni83 I have had issues with too much movement on MRE and so they don't always get a good enough visual of my jejunum which is one of the areas my Crohn's has appeared. They also can't reach the jejunum via any scopes so your GI may very well ask for a capsule endoscopy especially since the...
