    I'm back!

It's really good to be back. This "virtual" community is terrific, and I can't imagine what it must have been like beforehand!

    I'm back!

My son's doctor - who also has crohns - said he has had three (or four?) surgerys, and that he used to be in the hospital 3 weeks. My son's hospital stay was 5 days. He had what was called "Leparoscopoc Assisted Iieocecectory" - which I think was partly conventional surgery and partly a new...

    I'm back!

I'm back! I've been off the forum since early October. The reason is I've been diagnozed with a brain tumor and had surgery in October. Two weeks after my brain surgery, my son, who has crohn, had surgery on his terminal ilium, after being hospitalized three times in two weeks. Since my...

    Bulletin Boards for Kidney Stones

I got some suggestions from my son's nutritionist (my son has crohn's) to help with my urinary tract infection and she suggested a lot of what's on the scd diet. She says that sugar can feed the undesirable orgamisns - whether bacteria or wheat - and that I should cut out all processed sugars...

    Specific carbohydrate diet

Just wondering - have you stayed with the diet and, if so, how are things?

    Remicade Question

How long are you supposed to be on remicade before it takes affect? And how long can you be on it?

    New Website!!!

Hippie - framing it as a "freedom of information" issues is misrepresenting what's really a marketing attempt. I agree that it is an inappropriate promotion of gihelp's own web site.

    Bulletin Boards for Kidney Stones

I just learned that I've got kidney stones, along with what may also be a urinary tract infection. I'd live to be able to find a bulletin board for those ailments - similar to this one for crohns - and am just wondering if anyone has any suggested sites.

    Specific carb diet

An alternative nutritionist I've spoken with described the difference between the SCD and some related diets - The Body Ecology Diet and Jordan Rubin's diet (with Jordan Rubin you have to be able to get past all the constant advertising of his own products on what seems like every other page of...

Strict diet of organic food prompts Crohn's disease remission

Maybe we can get a pharmaceutical to fund a larger study.:)

How do you react to wheat (gluten)?

I'm operating under the view that, whether you have crohns or not, gluten-containing grains would be a good thing to reduce or eliminate from your diet (along with refined sugars).

    Raw Food?

Hippie - I'm not sure where you stand on David Klein. You're the one who posted a link to his web site, saying you reccomended them, and also said that he "healed" himself of crohns.

    Raw Food?

Good point. If for no other reason than that fact that Klein used the word "cure" should be reason enough to conclude the he doesn't understand the nature of the disease, i.e., it is not something that gets cured but, rather, it is something that you try to get into remission (as you stated)...

    Peanuts & Peanutbutter

Thanks. I did mean the latter. I figured he would be more suspectible to infections, colds, flu, etc.

    Natural Remedies

Can you tell me about what your extreme lifestyle changes have been? Thanks.

    Peanuts & Peanutbutter

Thanks. I'm wondering - do you know of a list of other symptoms - maybe in what would be termed the nuisance category - that he would be at risk for developing and that I should be on the lookout for.

    LDN Information Links

Kev - I don't think its grandiose at all to dediciate a special section to this one treatment. LDN definitely seems like a very discrete treatment in itself of crohns, and having one central place to communicate would be terrific.

    LDN Information Links

I think it's an excellent idea. My son is not on LDN but, as a potential treatment for his crohn's, it is certainly something that I want to stay current with in terms of information.

    Possible triggers

I'm not taking a position that stress does or does not make crohn's worse, let alone act as a trigger for it. However, I recall reading about a number of illnesses that doctors now know a good bit about the causes but, guess what? Before causes were identified, the doctors were saying that the...

    Raw Food?

Colt, a nurse's aide, made a posting earlier in this topic saying that cooking also has an effect on proteins in food that can make them easier to digest.
