    Best Hospitals

Ok, I was looking at the US News Best Hospitals list , and yes of course CHOP and Boston and Cincy are all way up there. But Mayo is like #44 -- and Children's Mercy in KC is #48 and they are awful! Soo, I am wondering about #16 which is Children's in Dallas. Are they pretty good? We have tons...

Searching for a diagnosis: this time we're not giving up

My 5. 5 year old daughter has been sick/undiagnosed for over 2.5 years now. It started with urology and then nephrology and we moved on to GI oh and of course opthalmology and rheumatology, and a couple of new pediatricians along the way. :rof: :ybatty: :ybatty: To be honest, all of the...

Undiagnosed for a year, seeing GI, and turning 5!

Welp, it's been a year since our first GI visit. We've sort of come full circle. After getting back our scope results in such a strange way (the pharmacy called us about Gracie's new medicine which needed compounding: sulfasalazine) and since I had not heard from the doctor I looked it up and...

Family History & Patterns of Inheritance

So, my husband's grandmother was just admitted to the hospital today with Ulcerative Colitis. It got me to thinking about the family history with IBD, and wondering if I could find any research on family genetics. Both my husband and I are Ashkenazi Jews (Eastern-European) and from what I've...

    Health Insurance Assistance

I have seen some talk about assistance from your state for health insurance. I think MLP mentioned in another thread secondary insurance for kids who are covered on insurance, but the state helps pay for the rest. Does anyone know where to find info about this? We're in Kansas -- and so far I...

    Dry Eyes & Inflammation?

We went to the eye doc this afternoon -- Gracie has been complaining of eye pain and needed her eye exam to start Kindergarten in the fall -- so I figured why not get it done and see what's going on? Well, it turns out she has inflammation & dry eyes (or something like that?) that she said is...

Update: new ped & other stuff

Well, we saw the new ped on Friday and she was great. She wasn't concerned with Gracie's growth. She said b/c she's still like 60th and 40th percentiles it is OK she didn't have a big growth year -- her weight and height growth for this year was proportional, and so that was good, too. She said...

    Posey Plays: a little update!

In case anyone missed my other thread, I started a little blog for kids (and parents) with medical issues. (www.poseyplays.com) I did some fun graphics for little ones with towers (from either feeding tubes, or IVs or anything really!) The girl version is a Rapunzel-style princess tower...

How can I help...making printables, etc.

So, in re-starting sulfasalazine 3x per day (which also means going back on folic acid) as well as the inhaler 2x a day and of course back on the Zyrtec, I needed some motivation (as did my little one!) Well, I am a graphic designer IRL, so I developed a weekly meds sticker chart that has been...

We found a new ped! Trying to get off on the right foot...

OK I interviewed a new ped yesterday and we're going with her. She seems smart and proactive but also really approachable and down to earth. She said she has several patients that she helps to coordinate the different specialists and I think she'll do great at managing our case! :thumright...

    Breathing difficulties?

So, we have the Sulfasalazine, but we haven't started it yet b/c we were trying to give the no Zyrtec expirement a chance to work. I didn't want to go off the Zyrtec at the same time we start Sulfasalazine and then not know which one was helping? So far she's still constipated -- didn't poop...

    Lactoferrin...allergist...child's pose...

So the lactoferrin lab was normal. (This is what they did instead of fecal calprotectin, as they say they do not do that lab at all. Gah!) So, does anyone know how close the lactoferrin lab is to fecal calprotectin? And if it is neg. is that a good indicator there is no inflammation right now...

Can you have IBD without weight loss?

So, I've been trying to stress less about Gracie's symptoms. She's still not at her "worst" -- the Sulfasalazine helped that a lot. She's still not great -- she's somewhere in the middle. She's constipated though she is going every day. (A small amount of tiny little pooplets). I haven't seen...

    High Platelets?

Hi guys! I know I am super in and out and I am sorry! My 4 year old Gracie is still undiagnosed -- we recently took blood just to double-check that her neutrophils went back up as they were low in a blood draw they did in June. And they did so we were glad, but now she is showing high platelets...

Back to the GI today...what all should I ask?

I am at the point where I'm afraid I'm going to cry to the doctor. I don't understand why she has to be sick all the time? I feel like they are just waiting for me to stop calling? And for this to all go away? I wish it would! A quick recap: scope in April showed inflammation in ileum & left...

US News and World Report: Best GI Specialists

Did anyone else see this came out today? http://health.usnews.com/best-hospitals/pediatric-rankings/gastroenterology CHOP is first -- has anyone been lucky enough to go there? What did you think? One of my best friends is in Philly and her nephew has Crohn's and she said whenever we're ready...

    Blood draw tricks

Hi! In an effort not to hijack Farmgirl's thread, I saw that you all were talking about some products that help with blood draws? A buzzy bee? And a numbing cream maybe? I think we're going to have to take more blood tomorrow -- and I am wondering if there is anywhere to get something like the...

    I think she's impacted...again...new meds not working?

So, Gracie (4) has been having severe constipation/impaction -- to the point of diarrhea going around her impaction. She's been on miralax for 1.5 yrs and now senna, too, for the last couple of months, and even with that, and even with going 2-6 times per day, she get impacted within a matter of...
