Your opinions on my digestive problem

Hello everyone. My name is Chelsea and I am 27 years old. In the last few years, my GI system has been acting up. Every thing I eat turns into gas and bloat. Even if I don't eat anything, I still get gassy and bloated. And on some occasions I am so gassy and bloated that I throw up. I went to the doctors for this a few years ago and he blamed it on dairy. Without testing me he said that I am lactose intolerant. I found that isn't always true in my case. I switched from milk to almond milk and I still get gassy. I was just wondering what it sounds like to you all because you all have digestive issues. My symptoms are fatigue, bloat, and gas. I rarely have diarrhea. Usually i only have it once or twice a month. I also suffer from hemorrhoids. I have them about 75% of the time (but they're not too painful). A few weeks ago I had an episode where I felt burning around my belly button and was dry heaving. That was on an empty stomach. I honestly never had had pains like that before. I just wanted to get your opinions. I know I have to go see a doctor but tonight I had an episode where I ate dinner, drank an alchoholic beverage (did not get drunk or even close to drunk) I got extremely bloated after and threw up my meal. This is the second time this has happened in 2 weeks. I also just want to add. Not only do I feel bloated in my abdomen but I feel gas in the left side of my neck and it is very uncomfortable. Thank you all

Honestly there is lots of things it could be. You could actually be lactose intolerant however to really diagnose that you need to do some blood work. It could also be celiac disease or IBS. I would recommend asking to actually get tested for lactose intolerance. If that is it to may need to be super careful beyond just cutting out milk. Otherwise asking for some basic bloodwork would be a good start. Things like a CBC, and CRP maybe. Good luck!

You might want to do a food diary to see what upsets your stomach. Instead of going to the doctor who said you were lactose intolerant without testing, I would seek out a second opinion. You might be lactose intolerant but you need someone who will test you. Get the blood work that was mentioned above. Let us know how you are doing.

I actually was tested for celiac disease when I went to the doctor who said it was lactose intolerance. I had a bad experience with him. I had blood work done and a stool sample, because at the time of the appointment I had oil in my stools. Anyway the doctor ended up losing the stool sample. He tested me for celiac and cystic firbrosis. For celiac all he told me was that my levels were higher than normal but it wasn't celiac. I will definitely find a better doctor. I just felt like he didn't care so I hesitate to go see another one. Thank you for your help!

Hi and welcome Chelsea.I'm glad you've taken the first step to a proper diagnosis. You know your own body and how it should be behaving,so make sure you get satisfactory treatment to put you on the road to feeling better. Please keep us updated, your posts will help others with the same problems.

Could be lots of things. With gut issues like this, they normally recommend you stop eating solid food and start a liquid elemental diet or keep a food diary.

If everything you are eating irritates you, then you may have bad inflammation inside. Not necessarily IBD. It could be IBS or candida overgrowth or a blockage or allergic reactions or indeed anything.

I would start a liquid elemental diet and see a specialist.

Typical testing for celiac disease is both a blood test for antibodies to gluten and visible atrophy and flattening of the intestinal villi as seen on an endoscopy. You could have any number of things, but it could also be food allergies or intolerances.

Do you have a good GP who can refer you to a gastroenterologist or allergist/immunologist? I wish you the best of luck as you try to track down what's causing your symptoms and hope you feel better soon.

I had the same problem years ago. I wasn't digesting food properly or absorbing nutrients. As it is mentioned above, I went on a liquid diet (water and vegetable juices for a week) and sought help from a doctor which was a waste of time, and then a naturopath, who was a huge help. She put me on some gut healing protocols and I improved from there. I know this is an old post, but most processed long-life almond milks are full of rubbish that will flare me up. Better to make your own, or buy a pure cold pressed one. Or have something more tolerable like camels milk.
