Being tested for IBD and confused, please help!

Hi, I've been suffering with symptoms since June and had numerous blood and fecael calprotectin tests which have all come back slightly raised according to my GP. My last FC was 397 when I was not at my worst by any means. My last esr was only slightly raised, and crp has been raised since symptoms began. She is now referring me to the specialist. I guess my question is how likely is this to be nothing? Would my FC be raised if there is nothing wrong with Me? Thanks in advance

FC is a really useful test, blood results can only show there is inflammation *somewhere* in the body. FC narrows this down to just the gut, so it sounds as though you are on the right track to getting some answers.

One thing I have read before is that taking NSAID drugs can cause an elevated test result, but other than that it sounds fairly likely something is going on. I don’t know what your symptoms are, but the fact that you’ve been having problems, plus the FC results suggest something is amiss.

Let us know how it goes [emoji4]

Your tests suggest there is inflammation going on but I think exams should be confirmed by some endoscopy, either colonoscopy or mri to see exactly what's the problem if there is.

Thank you for your reply. I've not taken any nsaids at all so it can't be that but no one has said that to me, that would have been handy to know in case I was, thanks.

My symptoms were initially loose stools type 7 with griping pain, with mucus and blood, when it was at it's worst I had green stool, bright red or just red flecked going 7 or 8 times a day on average. After that subsided I have had massive bloating, constant niggling pain in my lower abdomen and type 5/6 stool. Now I'm back to occasional pains combined with constipation, still with mucus and occasional loose stool when stressed etc. lol sorry if that's too much info.

I'm just glad they have now referred me. Hopefully I will get some answers.

Oh and I forgot, the constant fatigue, like literally could only walk downstairs before having to rest. Again that's no where near as bad now.

Hi kirsty you probably lost some blood and may have low hemoglobin that would explain constant fatigue.
You may improve quickly with an infusion of iron if your blood exam confirm low hemoglobin and iron levels. Iron supplement may upset your stomach so it's better to have it directly in veins.
You could question the specialist you seeing about that.
Hope you'll feel better soon.

I was told yesterday by my Gastroenterologists Family Nurse Practitioner to stop taking my pantoprazole acid reflux medicine that I have been taking for years. My calprotectin level was almost 700 on my recent test and I will have a colonoscopy/endoscopy next week. Eating liquids only right now with watery bowel movements 6 times a day. Pantoprazole is bad for my stomach and colon ?
