Eye pain

Optometrist told me to see a specialist but she doesn't see anything but worries if it's brewing. I don't know if she is covering her butt or I should still see a specialist.

With the prednisone and its host of side effects I'd suggest seeing the specialist. But you know me, better safer than sorry.

I haven't been on pred in years though.

You through a wide net for eye pain. Is it pressure, throbbing, ache etc. Sinus problems, allergies and migraines can cause eye pain. Are you seeing anything? Is it behind the eye? The lid, the eye itself or just general all over? One eye or both?
Not that I am going to know but it might help you figure it out.

It's behind the eye and I have had migraines so maybe that is causing it.

Awe, sometimes it can be a 'symptom'. I would at least talk to a specialist and get their input. Eye pain can be awful.

Okey. My pediatric GI said to get regular bone density scan and eye checks. I'm basing things on that advice. I haven't been on prednisone in a long time. So far so good.

I'm thinking you're also dealing with osteoarthritis (?). So your already dealing with side effects of prednisone. That's why I say better safe than sorry.

Because of where I live I don't need to worry if insurance will cover it.

yea specialist, I have eye stuff with Crohn's, lost my vision in one of my eyes for over a month once. My cornea basically fell apart, Dr said my immune system decided to attack my eye. Was at the eye doctor everyday for weeks. My cornea is fine now though
My classes prescription changes every time I get a flare.
Sorry hate to freak anyone out- but it is a problem- get it checked.

I know that it's basically an emergency if the eye gets inflamed. How fast though would it come on?

I'm hoping to wait another week and see if it gets better.

Crohn's patients are recommended to regularly see an opthamologist (eye md)
Not an optometrist.
DS saw a regular optometrist who missed a dx leading to scar tissue on the eye.
Only the opthamologist figured it out .
Eye pain can be serious .
Better to just get it checked -
Arthritis also has its own risks

What does the opthamologist do differently? Can they just deal with my vision and glasses too or no?

My eyes are often sore but in a matter of hours it deteriorated so I got an emergency appointment. Got worse for a few days until steroid drops and other meds got it under control.

They can handle your vision and glasses .
They are more equipped to dx eye diseases ( uvetis etc...)
They know the medical complications of Crohn's disease since they went to medical school just like your Gi - only specialized in eye diseases instead.
Our Gi has a box on the intake form specifically asking when the last time the kiddo saw an opthamologist .

Crohn's has EIM involving the eye hence the medical doctor that understands systemic effects .
