15 years

I had a definite diagnosis of Crohn's yesterday. For 15 years now, I have been presenting with the same symptoms.. I was diagnosed with flu, IBS fibromyalgia, depression, arthritis, chronic fatigue syndrome, I was even sent to a plastic surgeon for a breast reduction for the pain in my shoulders. and a bunch of other things. I have been to 10 specialists and had at least 6 colonoscopies and a couple of gastric scopes. In july of this year, I had a CLEAN colonscopy and landed in Emergency 8 days later with a complete bowel obstruction. I was hospitalized for 13 days. My system was so full of poison they stuck a tube up my nostril into my stomach to pump out all the toxic waste. I hesitated going to the hospital for about 26 hours, as I was sick and tired of ER departments and the nonsense run around, something the next day made me go and the doctor told me if I had of waited a few more hours.. it could have been too late for me. I do NOT understand in all those years, that no one put the pieces together. When I first heard about the posibility of Chron's.. I started reading and getting informed.. Every paragraph jumped out at me.. it was about ME.. This very long process makes me so angry. Why one of these 'specialists' didnt piece it together sooner is beyoned me. I had to give up my education twice.. my career.. my life.. sigh.. Im done venting for now! Thanks for listening.

HI mturnerm :welcome:.. most of us feel exactly like you do or did... It took one full year of agony for me. You have had a much longer route...dont even wanna know what they gave to you with all these problems. One thing I do know, it is hard for alot of us to even get an diagnosis some are still waiting...but are in agony.

Complete bowel obstructions I have had a few of, and there is no greater pain, having my daughter natural was a piece of cake, didn't even wince or bp raised.... This is my only one fear, is that it will happen again , I pray not.

Sorry you had to lose so much, it isnt fair.

I too am Canadian and live way up North of you. In the big cities the wait times for anything or test are months. Welcome aboard. Hope you join in with us!

Thanks very much.. I too was dealing with a small town medical system. Waiting a year or two for different specialists.. hang in there.

Hi there, I'm so sorry to read about the longevity of your diagnoses. I don't have any comforting words for you but what i can say in my personal experience is that some times when i went with my symptoms I'd see a different doctor who in my humble opinion wouldn't even bother to read on what i was there for the previous time for, i found that happened more than once and found myself being repetitive to doctors, living in a small City like Dublin we don't have many hospitals that would specialize in this, many times i really lost it with some doctors and although it was not right of me to raise my voice i felt if they'd bothered to read my case history I'd not have gone through half of what i did. In conclusion, I'm so happy you decided to go to the ER, maybe now they can start your treatment, Take care, i shall keep you in my prayers, and please keep in touch.

Derek.. thank you for your kind words. I guess with all my anger, Im relieved as there is finally a 'title' to what I have.. doesnt make it an easier pill to swallow.. but now, after I figure out how to handle this disease and I think Im on the right track with the new doctor and supportive people like you, Im going to get my life back on track. I just hope Im not too old now..:ylol2: Nice to meet you and thanks again.. I hope you have more good days than not so good days .

Hi there! Welcome to the family. I'm sorry it took them so long to solve your puzzle. You've been through quite an ordeal. Hopefully things will really start to look up for you.

What meds are you currently on? Have you had to have any surgeries?
