3 year old with Crohn's

My beautiful grand daughter has been having Crohn's symptoms. She hasnt put on any weight in 3 months. She regularly has a mouth full of ulcers , tummy pains and blood in her stools, diarrhea vomiting and hair loss.
We cant seem to get any help her in W.A

Where can we go what can we do? we keep taking her to emergency they say see the pediatrician.. We saw the pediatrician they say see E.R if she gets bad.. She is only 3
what can we do.
her Mum has Crohn's too

Had she been tested for food allergies? I wonder if she's reacting badly to something she is eating. I would make sure her diet is free from all processed food, all artifical colors and flavors, and do sort of an "elimination diet" with her to see if there are certain food that trigger her symptoms. If she had crohn's, learning what foods trigger her symptoms can be very very useful for her little digestive system. And, even if food allergy tests come back negative, that doesn't mean that she doesn't have a sensitivity to them. For example I cam back negative for a gluten allgery, but each time I eat gluten, I get stomach pains...so I choose not to eat gluten.

Foods that might soothe her system now are very very soft foods...like baby food. When I flare I eat roasted an pureed butternut squash and avocado and that helps. Nothing acidity like orange juice.

OH, and after reading your post again....i'd give this advice: GET A NEW PEDIATRICIAN! I can't believe he performed no tests on your grand-daughter!! And no referral to a specialist either?? That's absurd. She deserves a better doctor!

I hope she starts to feel better soon.

So sorry. I'd suggest looking for a pediatric G.I. Specialist.
I hope you get some answers and treatment soon.

Hi whoo0me and :welcome:

I am so very sorry to hear about your granddaughter, what a difficult and heartbreaking time for you all. :ghug:

Are you going to the children's hospital?

If not I would go to the GP and ask for a referral to a paediatric gastroenterologist at the Princess Margaret Hospital. Hardly an unreasonable request given the little one's symptoms and the family history. Or contact the unit directly and speak with them about your concerns and ask their advice:

Princess Margaret Hospital Gastroenterology:

http://www.pmh.health.wa.gov.au/services/gastroenterology/

The Gastroenterology Unit routinely accepts tertiary referrals provided by paediatricians.

General practitioner referrals may be accepted when there is adequate detail in the referral suggesting a significant gastroenterological disorder, requiring tertiary level gastroenterology input. Other referrals will be forwarded to a general paediatric service.
Good luck and keep us posted!

Welcome

Sorry you had to find us.

Are you look for a paediatric gi in the public system or the private system as well?

I know they are hard to find outside the public hospital system.

There are two paediatric gi in the practice my daughter attends and was surprised to find out they do second opinions for a number of Western Australia families.

Maybe try the association:-
