5-asa medication to prevent bowel cancer

Hi all,

I have recently been reading some statistics about bowel cancer after a period of time (circa 20- 30+ years after having the disease) being quite high for both colitis and Crohn's (1 in 5 for Crohn's, will be higher in colitis). The main form of prevention which I have read that seems to work is taking 5-asa drugs. Anyone on these to prevent bowel cancer (both large and small bowel cancer)? I know 5-asa doesn't work in the small bowel but sulfa and pentasa I believe do work in the TI and around 75% of small bowel cancers are ileal.
5-asa drugs have other actions including blocking cancer cell growth and promoting cancer cell death.
