A letter to our son's Doctor, it's long; I apologize

I wish you all the very best for your journey ahead. I hope more than anything that Miles receives relief from his symptoms. Please keep us posted on how he continues to progress. I would be very interested to know about the diet he follows and the supplements he is taking.

Everyone has the right to their own opinions and the path they choose and I respect yours as much as any other.

Thanks for for the update, it's good to hear from you again.

Take care, :)

hi there... i totally understand what you're doing and why, and i support you in your decision to try alternatives. it is one hell of a responsibility, making those decisions about another person, and with a condition like Crohn's, we never know what the consequences of our decisions are going to be - none of us have a crystal ball unfortunately.

from what you say about the doctor you've written to, i suspect he will be understanding too - i hope so - and i hope he will continue to treat your son in the future if the alternative route doesn't work.

i wish you every success with this - i hope it brings relief and remission for your boy. please keep us updated with how things are going, and what effects the treatment has on him, not only do we want to know how your son's doing, it would also be really interesting for anyone else considering this type of treatment.

best of luck! :)

Nicholas and Diana, please do keep posting so we can follow Miles' progress. We,too, are using many recommendations from a naturopath but as I said before with EJ's liver condition, we feel we must follow the GI's recommendations as well. I know how agonizing this and every decision about Miles can be. I wish you only the best!!!

You are totally understood as to why you are choosing the path you have for your son. I wish you the best of luck and let us know how it works for him.

You are correct in saying as a parent you must go to the ends of the earth for your child. I think any parent would.

take care

Dear Nicholas & Diana

I got a lump in my throat with the end paragraph, I too as a parent would go to the ends of the Earth for my children!
I wish you so much luck in this journey of yours, and remember this, you don't have to justify yourselves to anyone, and if the doc doesn't like that, then more fool him!
keep in touch, it would make smashing reading, Miles bring it on lad!
lotsa luv

That seems a bit unwise...such a letter could be used as evidence against you in the event there is a question of your new doc mistreating or undertreating your son. You don't need to tell your GI anything besides the fact that you've selected a new doctor.

I second thefreeaccount's observation. Please rethink keeping your letter posted. I was very moved by your letter to your doctor; however, I used to work for a Doctor who would do that very thing.

He was a cancer specialist, and because he would recommend one form of treatment and the patient would choose an alternative treatment, sometimes the patient would have an adverse reaction. The patient and sometimes their family members would then blame the doctor, saying he didn't warn them about the dangers, etc, and would sue for compensation. The first thing the lawyers for the Doctor would do is subpoena the letters, emails, phone calls etc of the patient to the doctor, to use against them in court. Also, isurance companies use these methods as well. I'd hate to see that happen to anyone here.

Please don't misunderstand me-I totally support and understand your seeking alternative treatments for your son, and we all appreciate reading the updates. I just want to inform you that this particular letter might come back to bite you later. Best wishes on your son's treatment; be sure to update us on his condition.

I agree too. If the alternative therapy were to cause something bad to happen, and you had to seek emergency operations for a blockage or something of that nature, the insurance company could do their own investigations into the medical past and see that you initially sought medical attention, but then went to alternative therapies... they could then decide to not cover the operation because they could say it was an avoidable circumstance had you listened to the initial advice of your doc.

Edit: I see you've deleted it from your post.
