A sign of meds not working?

Hey guys. So I was diagnosed about 6 weeks ago. I was put on 30mg prednisone and pentasa. Was on 30mg for 2 weeks and then started tapering weekly. I'm now down to 5 mg prednisone. I've had no pain but have noticed since I've been going down thar my tummy gurgling noises are back (it's sooo loud! Lol). I've had looser stools but not diarrhea. Getting fatigue again but not to the extent that I was before diagnosis.
I know these are small symptoms and I'm glad there's no pain but do you think this means anything? As in do you think it means the meds are maybe not working? I'm waiting to have a small bowel mri and another colonoscopy which the GE said within 6-8 weeks abd then due to see GE in 3 months. Should I just ride it out for my appointments or ring the ibd nurse and ask them to speed it up? Obviously I'm new to all of this so am unsure what nerds attention and what I just ride out!

I wouldn't take them as small signs. For me, gurgling is a sign that you have some inflammation or stricturing going on. It sounds like the pred knocked it down initially but hasn't resolved it. At the very least, keep a record of what is going on. Hopefully your docs are more responsive, but I don't think you would get a lot out of your docs at this point. If you notice any more symptoms though, I would call your IBD nurse. In a perfect world you could be seen right away, but I don't see that happening. Still, make sure you advocate for yourself on this. If you saw improvement and it has disappeared, don't doubt yourself.

Oh really? I guess I just think of them as small signs in comparison to the pain and other symptoms I had before diagnosis! Thank you.

You are correct that they are small, but they are normally strong indicators. Keep a good eye on them. When you catch these early you can hopefully address the disease before it becomes a problem. Sort of like treating your headache early on instead of waiting the extra couple hours to see if it goes away, but gets worse instead.

Hi and welcome.
yes, you should contact the IBD nurse as soon as possible. Your symptoms seems to be returning. Waiting is not necessary and never good with Crohn's. You dr will most likely want to examine you faster or change or adjust your medication. Wishing you well.

Before getting too worried try shifting gears on the foods your eating. Rule out any foods that might be aggravating the symptoms. Sometimes simply eliminating certain foods really helps.

So the pain is back. Ugh! Am trying to get in to see the specialist so hopefully soon. Having a small bowel mri tomorrow morning. Sick of it all already!

I think I remember you saying your GI said the initial treatment for crohn's was the same as colitis? Since you have tapered to a low dose (or are you off it entirely) and are taking Pentasa, it sounds to me like you need a better medication; Pentasa treats the surface of the bowel, but crohn's inflammation extends all the way through the bowel wall. Your MRI should indicate where the inflammation is, and hopefully your GI will prescribe something stronger than what you are taking now. Let us know how you are getting on.

Thanks guys. Had mri but no results yet. I personally think it is crohns. Was off the pred but ibd nurse phoned me and she faxed through a script for more so back on the prednisone. Am on pentasa until I can see the specialist which will hopefully be within 2-3 weeks. They also prescribed vitamin d. Started the pred today and feeling a bit sore but nothing major. Just achy hips and legs already! And a bit nauseous

I just had an mri on Monday. So... also in that in betweeny place, wondering what the new information might be and pondering possible next steps. Wish you the best as you learn more and find a clearer path to healing!
