Allopurinol, mercaptopurine and headaches

About 2 and a half weeks ago, I started taking allopurinol, and decreased my dose of mercpatopurine. For the past 4 days, I have had a non-stop headache. I can't find anything that the two medications combined would cause the headaches, but nothing else has really changed, unless you count the weather getting significantly colder. I usually get headaches due to humidity, not cold weather. Could the new medications be causing these headaches? I'm waiting for the doctor to call me back tomorrow, but just wondering about this.

My son was on 6mp and allopurinol for about a year and a half. He did have headaches while on them but seems to suffer from headaches occasionally anyways. (He is now just on mercapatopurine) I have always felt his headaches happened when he was dehydrated. These meds really take a lot of water out of you and so it is important to drink extra water and a full glass when taking your dose. I also notice he is better when taking vitamins.

I know these suggestions seem overly simple an silly but worth a try until you hear from your doctor. It really did help my son.

Just stay away from Advil or any NSAIDs for your headache, they can cause inflammation and can cause a flare if you use them often.

Hope you find some answers. ((((hugs)))))
