Hello everyone!!!
I feel like I am losing my mind a little. I went in for a routine colonoscopy. I am a 46 year old female. I was not expecting anything because there is no history of anything and I have no digestion issues. It is just the new age to get them done.
Thay being said, I woke up with the doctor saying a ulcer was found in my cecum. He biopsied it and will follow up. The labs says
Severe active chronic colitis with ulceration, see comment. Comment: The differential diagnosis for these features includes infection, inflammatory bowel disease, drug/medication (particularly NSAIDs)-associated colitis, and segmental colitis secondary to diverticular disease, among other possibilities.
The doctor wants to start me on humaria and honestly I do not feel right about it.
Everything else in my exam was great... there was no other issues or signs of IBD. Even the valve was fine. The entire thing seems random and I feel like I should ask for more tests to confirm since the comment mentioned other possibilities. I know the biopsy is the big telltale but something does not feel right?
Has anyone here had something like this happen, have no symptoms and are told you have CD?
I have read that a single ulcer in the cecum only have a few patients... course I could be lucky.
When I asked the school nurse (where I work) how do I approach a doctor if I do not agree with the treatment? I kind of explained the situation and she made a face that she was surprised by the diagnosis.
I just feel like I am losing my mind because as I said... something does not feel right. I want to heal the ulcer with a more mild form of medication... I will even do a follow up colonoscopy. Even more tests if need be...
Thank you for hearing me out

All I can tell you is you need to be strongest advocate for your own health.

I have had CD since I was 15 (I'm 56 now). I had surgery when I was 20 (small bowel resection) and for 20 years after that felt amazing. But what I discovered in my 40s was that I did indeed have active Crohns again, I just didn't have any symptoms. It wasn't until I got a new doctor and got a colonoscopy done that I was told there was active inflammation. I didn't feel it. I felt great. But the pictures didn't lie. Now I will say, I did not like his medical suggestions and sought out a new doctor for a second opinion. The new doc confirmed the diagnosis, but also suggested alternate treatments and meds. I've been with him ever since.

Get a second opinion if you can to help you better understand the situation. But also know that many people feel "great" even when the disease is active.

Best of luck to you!
