And now the wait game…

Hi everyone,
It’s been a rough few months, the crohns seems quiet right now, but I had a abscess drained in Dec, and Oct had an appt with a hemotologist, my GI wants to know why my WBC is up and down all the time, well the hemotologist is testing for cancer, I had blood work done in early Dec, and now wait till Jan 28 for my appt with hemotologist to get results. I can’t sleep or function well with this waiting. The waiting for these blood test results since early Dec does so much harm to my health, can’t sleep and get so worried to tears some days.

Does your doctor have an on line patient portal? It can be a double-edged sword - but I use mine all the time and get test results before the doctor does sometimes.....I actually had blood drawn yesterday for a surgical procedure I'm having done in 2 weeks and saw the results this morning.....now to research a couple of things. :)

No, not that I know of. This is a specialist hemotologist don’t this bloodwork but I don’t know if he has this. I will have to ask but the next time I talk to him is next Friday. I just hope that if there was anything to worry about he would of called me sooner. But not every dr works that way. On the requisition of blood work he did, the results weren’t even sent to my GI, so I can’t even ask my GI what is happening.
the problem was, my WBC was up and down at times, my GI thought it was from flares and prednisone, but wanted this bloodwork done by a hemotologist to make sure nothing else is going on. I have been waiting so long for these results. I hasthe appt with hemotologistin Oct, I couldn’t have bloodwork till Dec 10, so now I wait till Jan 28 for results. Seems so unfair for me to have towait this long. My GI thought if it was anything serious then my WBC would
Continue to go up and not come down at all, but who knows. I’m so worried. I have had a rough couple of months

If you call the office the administrative assistant should know of the office has a portal.
Normally docs especially specialists have portals so you can view test results
They just send you an email link and your in

hope you get answers soon
That’s a long time to wait
Hugs 🤗

I checked this out and my dr doesn’t do this but the place I got the bloodwork has a portal. I tried to get in but it won’t allow me to access results because the bloodwork was more then 30 days ago. So now I continue to wait. I think moving forward I will have a conversation with my dr and specialist, waiting since mid Oct for results is really unfair to me and I think the stress and anxiety this causes my body is really unhealthy.

Most of the times the WBC count can sway one way or the other in response to inflammation in your gut, due to anxiety or stress or due to an infection/inflammation in other parts of your body like a sore throar/ sinusitis. I understand the anxiety of waiting for results can be challenging. I suggest you disclose this to your hematologist and see if they can help inform you of the results the day they receive them. All the best.

I totally agree, I was telling my husband yesterday that I will speak to my GI about the timing of these results and maybe send me to a different hemotologist, because clearly this is not best for my mental health.

I get all my blood draws and stool samples done through Sonora Quest Laboratories and they now have the results of every blood, stool or urine testing that I have done with them. I can go into their patient portal and see every result from the last several years. LabCorp has a patient portal too. If any of my tests go to different laboratories then I have to get those results from my doctor.
That’s awesome
