Anti-TNFs such as Remicade or Humira were shown to be less effective at inducing remission when given as a first biologic to patients older than 60 years vs. those younger than 60 years. Older patients showed a 38% clinical remission rate vs 61% for younger patients after 52 weeks of anti-TNF treatment.
