Anxious for today

I've been having chronic diarrhea, horrible abdominal pain and random fevers for over a year. I'm not the kind of person that likes to run off to the doctor, but through my families persistence I finally was referred to a G.I. specialist and he recommended to do a colonoscopy and endoscope which will happen today (also my birthday). I've had a CT scan which came back fine, all my blood test came back fine except that I am severely vitamin D insufficient. I had a colonoscopy back into 2011 which showed colitis, polyps, fistula and a "blue discoloraction of my cecum." I was only 24 at the time and the doctor told me that he was not worried about something like Crohns because I was "too young." Come to find out now that doctor had no idea what he was talking about....

Regardless today is the big day and I am so torn and anxious. Obviously no one ever wishes to find out something is wrong with them but on the other hand if they find absolutely nothing, than what is going on? The discomfort and unpredictable "episodes"really feel like they are starting to consume my life.

Hi, Pierce. I know the feeling. There's nothing wrong with wanting the answer. Because an answer is always better than a mystery. And I think that first doctor needs a good swift kick in the rear. I was diagnosed at 22, and it's actually fairly common to be diagnosed in your 20s or even younger.

Thank you so much for writing back. I'm glad someone else understands that feeling. And yes. The doctors that took care of me back in 2011 were horrible. They just threw a bunch of pain killers at me, got my body dependent on them and then sent me on my marry way. If anything made my condition worse!

Unfortunately you have to be persistent as some of these docs don't care about the soul since this businesses has been so monetized. I hope you can get the answers.

I went thru the same thing in the beginning. They prescribed me Zoloft, finally after 6 colonoscopies in one year they finally got a diagnosis.

The cure of the part should not be attempted without treatment of the whole. No attempt should be made to cure the body without the soul. Let no one persuade you to cure the head until he has first given you his soul to be cured, for this is the great error of our day, that physicians first separate the soul from the body. - Plato

Happy Birthday! :birthday2:Sorry you're not going to be celebrating it in a better way...

Your previous doc sounds really bad. For a start he couldn't be more wrong - there are parents of 3 year olds diagnosed with Crohn's on the forum and even babies can be diagnosed with Crohn's. Sadly not the first time I've heard that story for Crohn's or other diseases though. Sorry you had such a bad experience.

I can certainly understand the desire to get some answers. It feels like such a conflict but we're only looking for something to be wrong so that someone will have an idea of how to treat it and we'll start feeling better. I think it often feels like such a confusing thing to want because we may well in the course of testing and pursuing a diagnosis have been told that the symptoms are all in our mind and you can be sure that that isn't the case but still start to question yourself after a time.

Do come back and let us know how the scopes go and the results. There are lots of people who have been on a complicated journey to diagnosis on the forum who will. I'm sure, have advice for you if you need it.

Happy birthday!!!! I can think of better ways to spend your special day. I hope you will celebrate in style on another day.

I wanted to say good luck and keep fighting.

I was diagnosed at 20 (I'm now 30) after a year and half of pain, tears, weight loss etc. They put it down to growing pains 😡 colonoscopy showed the truth after begging for one! Hope u get some answers, then you can begin treatment to hopefully ease the symptoms! And you then know what's going on and how to deal with it! Keep us posted 👍

Thank you all for being so supportive and writing me on here. I had the procedure yesterday and they found several polyps that were removed as well as a large area that they're called "friable". I also got several of my lab work back that all show I tested high for inflammation in my bowels.
I still have not talked to the doctor that did the procedure. Apparently he came and talked to me while I was still quite under the influence of my anesthesia. But the nurse did tell me that I should have the results from all the biopsies in about a week. Now I guess I just sit and wait and hope I get some answers.

friable mucosa / contact (with endoscope) friability of mucosa is typically a sign of inflammatory disease activity on the bowel mucosa. I always get this observations with my scopes when I am in a flare. When the disease activity is very mild in me (early or ending of flare), only this abnormal observation remains...

Thank you! That is very informational. I appreciate that. I try to avoid looking up medical things online cause it can give you such wrong infortmation sometimes. So thank you. My doctor seems to be rather hesitant to label or give me a diagnosis of any kind... Actually I still haven't been able to reach him about any of this. Not even my abnormal labs. I saw them on my online medical record but he never notified me himself about what any of them mean. My uncle had crohns and I know he had to struggle to find a doctor that would actually take the time to treat him appropriately. Hopefully this doctor won't let me down but so fair I'm not to impressed. 😔
