Any help?

Hello, this past March I was in the hospital for a problem with my blood pressure being really high. While in the hospital my GI doctor came in to see me, dont even know how she got the news that I was there? the only dealings I had had with her was about 2 years ago I saw her for "GERD" Anyway, she tells me that they found from my blood work that I had crohns, even though I had no symptoms. She put me on 4 pills a day of lialda. After a couple months I was getting all the symptoms, and kept going to see her over and over. She did scopes, tried other meds for colon spasms, nothing has worked. I read online that Lialda has been known to cause people problems, so I took it upon myself to stop the Lialda. After 2 days of stopping the Lialda I started feeling better, all the symptoms of being tired, sick to my stomach, going to the bathroom all have stopped, except for one major issue. Some time around the middle of June, while still on Lialda I also started having major pain in my rectum after every bowel movement, this problem is still with me and its really getting me down. The pain is sharp, and throbbing, burning, and it lasts for 6-12 hours after every movement. It seems like there is lots of pressure in my private area, and the only relief and it is minor is to sit in a hard chair. I have a appointment with another doctor in about 2 weeks, it has taken almost 2 month to get in to see him??? I am wondering if anyone else has had this problem, and what was done about it? Sorry for the long post, and any misspellings, I am desperate for answers

I am one of those people allergic to Lialda. Well, actually, I am extremely sensitive to aspirin. AND I knew that, but no one told me that if you are aspirin sensitive you shouldn't take Lialda. I had the most horrible cramping I can only describe as if there was broken glass in my intestines. I even had the rectal issue you describe. The doc stopped the Lialda, gave me a liquid enema for the rectum issue, and put me on Humira which worked great for 2 years, but then stopped working. Are you sensitive to aspirin?

Trying the natural method that's not working so well right now. I DO NOT recommend this to anyone.

I dont have any issues with aspirin, I take a coated aspirin every day for the past 19 years, but the Lialda didnt like me. My only problem is the pain after going to the bathroom. It happens every time, and then lasts for hours. Sometimes it hurts really bad, others it is just kind of a dull pain. The only time that I am not in some kind of pain is the days that I dont have a bowel movment, and that is maybe once a week. I get the impression that my GI doctor is stumped, and that is why she set me up with another GI specialist?

I had/have proctitis which can cause rectal pain, swelling, a continuous need to go to the bathroom, a feeling of fullness in that area, bleeding, pain with bowel movements, if I remember it all correctly. In my case, it comes and goes, sometimes for months at a time. You can try Googling it. If this sounds like what you might have you should contact your doc for diagnosis and treatment.

That kind of describes me, and I am in constant contact with my GI doctor, I am sure that I have funded her holidays this year. My pain started about 3 months ago, while the Lialda was giving me problems. When I stopped the Lialda every sympton I had dissapeared, except the anal pain. And it happens with every bowel movement, I am fairly regular at once per day, so I am in pain for anywhere from 6 to 12 hours a day. What did they give you to make this go away?

The first and worst time I had it they prescribed an enema of mesalamine and because it was topical it didn't bother me. My daughter who has UC was prescribed the same but in a suppositorie form. After her worst and my worst flare our proctitis comes and goes. We have no idea why but stress seems to makes it worse.

Just an update, and new question. I went to a different specialist the other day, and she is telling me that she doesnt think that I have Crohns. She says that I have a fisher, gave me two types of cream, one for healing, and one to help reduce the pain. she said to try this for 2 weeks, and see if it works, if not she says there is a surgery to cut my spenctor and that will fix me for sure?? I had lots of questions, on why nobody else has told me this, and why did the first doctor tell me I had crohns in the first place?? And why hasnt anyone noticed the fisher before, I have had 3 scopes in the past 6 months. Also, one of the creams is Diltiazem 2% in emollient cream, and the other is Lidocaine Hydrochloride jelly USP 2%, would these have any effect on my sugar readings, as they have really shot up since starting the creams?

Well, I am not a doctor, but my fissures came after my diagnosis. I have heard there is a surgery for it, but my doc is hoping Remicade will heal everything. Crohn's can be difficult to diagnose so keep that in mind.
