Ugh. I have started to go to gym, about 3-4 times a week, 1 hour at the time. Spinning, Body Combat, kettlebell ect.

Proplem is, that i get awful headaches after working out! Yesterday i was in gym for 10-11am and headache starts at 7pm. Nothing helps, regular pain meds. Yesterday i was drinking water quite good and eat normally. My neck and shoulder muscles are quite sore so it could be that too? But what the hell could i try to prevent the headaches? It is quite motivation killer to know that everytime i hit the gym i get migraine type of pain that lasts till next Morning.

Any blood pressure problems? What meds are you taking?

Also, I am reading this correctly, you notice the headaches starting 8 hours after you leave the gym? That sounds too far removed to be honest. Did this problem start when you started going to the gym?

I agree with Kel, if the headaches are happening much later then it may not be related. Are you drinking enough water when you work out? Are you doing anything differently on your workout days as opposed to non-workout days - things like, are you drinking sports drinks on workout days? Caffeine? I suffer from migraines too and my GP said I should keep a "headache journal" - write down everything you do, eat, etc and make a note of any patterns you notice with regards to your headaches. For me, getting too much sleep (like sleeping in on the weekends), getting even a little bit dehydrated, and having caffeine can all trigger a migraine.

This is a guess, but maybe it is either dehydration or your electrolytes are getting too low. I get headaches if I get dehydrated, though it doesn't take 8 hours for them to come on (more like an hour, but they usually take overnight for the headache to go away).

I don't know what GI problems you have, but those too often lead to dehydration. And if you just rehydrate with water, your electrolytes might be too low. You might try some sort of sports drink.

Just a thought are you new to regular gym visits?are you over working?it could help if you cut back the intensity of your exercises and see if your headaches stop if they don,t speak to your doctor.all the best good luck

The 8 hour difference is interesting, but are you eating anything before you go to the gym? If you are not a breakfast person, make sure you eat something like a granola bar or yogurt before you go. That might help with headaches and stomach issues. Also, try to drink stuff that has electrolytes (Gatorade/Powerade) every once in a while to see if that helps.

Make sure you're getting enough protein. When you work out hard your muscles get broken down and they need protein to get help them grow and strengthen. Try a protein shake after the gym. Protein shakes will have vitamins and minerals in them that you need to recover from working out and of course, lots of protein!
