Bad Pain

Location
London
hey guys,

For the last few months i've just been getting bad pains in my abdomen about once a day, if that. Im sure you know the pain i mean, where it hurts quite a lot for a bout 20 seconds, then goes away.

For the last 2-3 days however there has always been a background pain, and these pains happen about every 10 minutes. Also, it feels as if my stomach is, like really hot? i don't know how to describe it, like when you drink a hot drink and it feels warm in your stomach; well it feels like that all the time. Im getting a bit concerned, i thought i'd leave it and see if it stopped for a few days but its not going away, if anything its getting worse.

Any ideas to what it could be / what to do? :/

if it dosn't go away by tomorrow i will be going to the doctors. :(

It sounds like something you might want to get checked out. Anytime I've had more lasting pain I've had inflammation confirmed. Is the pain in one particular spot? You mentioned your stomach - is it sort of high and central?

Hello Blue,
Time for you to seek some professional help from your doctors.
This could be a flare, inflammation several things.
You need some tests to determine the problem.
Please let us know how you get on.
Feel better soon
Hugs and best wishes

central :| it still isn't better now so i'll have to ring up the doctors today :( I hate going to the doctors.....

yeah,
pain like that you dont want to play around with, it's better to go and get it checked out than to sit/lay and suffer... that may just make it worse.

Let us know what happens,
Skippy

Blue - I get the exact same, is your skin hot to the touch where it hurts? The only thing with going to the doctor is they don't really do alot - you might be better off going A&E.

Yeah - I agree with Sophie about doctors not doing a lot... except GIs. If you have one, that's who I'd go see. Unless the pain is getting so bad you can't function, in which case I'd also go to A&E.

Oh and the reason I asked about placement, is that your pain sounds like when I had disease in my duodenum. Don't play around with it - if you don't get any help from your doctor today, don't just leave it.

Best wishes - let us know how you get on.

Seriously, me too. I have major anxiety about that, which is why I try to avoid my GP at all costs, since they always seem to be the ones that say that.

Are you going to the GP or the GI? If your GP is unhelpful, can you get a referral? Go in with a strategy - don't just take "you're fine" for an answer - how can they know that, anyway, without looking inside?

Im not sure what GI stands for but, if its the specialist/doctor guy at the hospital then yeah i'll probably go to him - just wait for my mum to get home and see what i should do. My normal Doctor guy is really helpful, but the guy at the hospital said if there's any problems go to him rather than the GP.

Blue, GI means gastroenterologist or gastroenterology consultant. Do you have an IBD nurse/crohn's nurse. Most people do in the uk and you can ring them. They will advise you.

If not go to your gp. I disagree that that you should go to a&e first (sorry previous posters). Your GP will get you seen today if necessary by the right team at the hospital and are more experienced than most in casualty unless you are lucky to be seen initially by a senior doc there. If you just turn up to a&e you could have a long wait and they will refer you to the same team as the GP will anyway...if its necessary.
Though if it was doubling up in agony pain and calling the ambulance pain... then turning up to a&e would be reasonable.

I'm sorry for the jargon - yeah, the specialist is who I mean. Sometimes people use "GI" to stand for gastroenterologist (who is the specialist that you're talking about). I'm glad you get along with your GP - I have never had one I liked ;-)

If you can see the specialist, I'm sure he is likely to do some further tests on you to check whether this is a flare. It definitely sounds like something that shouldn't be ignored.

Yeah, littlemissh is right - if your GP can send you to the right people at the hospital, you'll get seen a lot quicker. Good call :)

Yee, the only problem is my GP is only in on Mondays lol. Every other day hes some doctor for Sports teams and stuff.. >.<

If this is the case, you should be able to call your specialist directly for help. I hope he's able to see you quickly.

Your GP practice will have someone else to see you. GPs have to always have to have arrangements for other gp's to see you if they are not available.
Or as I said your IBD nurse.
