BC pharmacare coverage for Humira

Hi all,

this post is more for those us living in British Columbia but I was recently sent a letter saying Bc pharmacare is switching over to biosimilars. So everyone who takes humira has to switch to an alternative injection. This makes me worried obviously. Has anyone already started the process of reaching out to your gastro doctor? Is there one biosimilars that they are recommending for those with Crohns and on humira? Would drug intolerance be possible?

Will they make exceptions if a physician says you need a given medication and a "biosimilar" is not an acceptable alternative?

Blanket policies like this really concern me, as the idiots who write them are usually bean counters know nothing about medicine or pharmacology and could care less. This is exactly why governments do not need to be involved in healthcare. I feel sorry for you folks in Canada. The sad thing is, we have a whole demographic in the US who are crowing that they want the same thing here.

I think Canadians are very lucky with health care compared to USA and wouldn't change that at all. Of course there are a few things that can be improved but everyone has health care and we don't have to have private insurance to have health care. I feel fortunate to be Canadian. :)

Glad to hear it's working out for you and maybe things are different in Canada, but in the US, just about everything the government touches gets screwed up in very short order. One can look at the Veterans Administration healthcare in the US over the last 25+ years and see what a nightmare it has been and all of the people who suffered as a result. If they have a hard time just managing veterans' healthcare, I can't imagine what it would be with a whole country of 330 million.

speaking with my team they said that It is very unlikely they will approve anyone who is required to stay on a biologic. Very strict
