Blood Results

A little concerned about my latest blood results which have come back with red abnormal markers.
Serum alkaline phosphatase is 150.
Serum creatinine is 74umol/L
Haemoglobin estimation is 123 g/L
Haematocrit is 0.37 L/L
Mean corpusc. haemoglobin(MCH) is 26.5 pg
CRP is 25.

Now I've had a nasty infection, I finished my AB's last thurs & these results are from a blood test last friday. I'm going to have another one next week, I've left a message on my specialist nurses answerphone & primed her to have a look @ my next set of results.
My red cells have been going downhill since May last year though which concerns me, its probably due to the blood I lose during BM's but I cant fathom why my body isn't replacing the blood loss.
I'm hoping next weeks test shows a healthy improvement, I'm aware that some of them are inflammation markers & it could be down to the infection. BUt still a bit worried

Hi Grant,

Boy oh boy! Do you have it rough right now! I feel for you. I'm afraid I don't have the knowledge, (luckily) to offer you suggestions though. What I can do, is wish you the best, and be here for you any time you want to vent or just have a BS. Maybe take your mind off things a little. pm me any time.

All the best,

cmack

Grant - your body very likely IS replacing the blood loss, or at least trying to. It's just that it can't keep up. You should be taking iron supplement pills (along with 500 or 100 mg of vitamin C to increase iron absorption) on an empty stomach at least once and perhaps twice a day. Do not use the "coated" type pill for controlled or delayed release, because they release the iron too late, after the pill has already passed the part of the gut where the majority of the iron is absorbed.

The downside is that iron pills are often irritating to the stomach - something not good for IBD sufferers. So if you turn out to be one of those who cannot tolerate the iron tablets, ask your doctor about getting an iron infusion. That way the gut is bypassed and the absorption is hugely increased.

Getting your anemia under control is very important, because anemia can promote so many additional problems in the body.

Tks for all the replies. Specialist Nurse rang me, because of the very nasty infection she said its highly likely that my bloods would be all over the place. She's going to have a look @ my next set which I'm having Monday. Hopefully things will be settling down.
Scipio, I'm seeing my Specialist 16/2 & will be discussing this with him then.
Thankyou once again for all the replies.

I second that!

I think Iron is a good idea too!

I try to get it from natural sources though as much as possible. beans, whole grains, dark leafy greens (spinach) (I blend the spinach with a banana and some walnut with organic soy milk. Otherwise I have a hard time digesting the spinach leaves) , dark chocolate, and tofu. my stomach doesn't like the elemental Iron very much.

Good luck and best wishes,

cmack

Latest Blood Test Results
Serum alkaline phosphatase is 92 u/L
Serum creatinine is 81 umol/L
Haemoglobin estimation is 131 g/L
Haematocrit is 0.41 L/L
Mean corpusc. haemoglobin(MCH) is 26.3 pg
CRP is 1

So a massive improvement. Even my Haemoglobin estimation has improved. I've managed to stop the bleeding to a tiny amount by using Anusol non Hydrocortizone Suppositories.
Feel much better & far happier.
Thanks to all who replied.
