hi :)
I had a colonoscopy & endoscopy on monday just for a check-up but now they've found that my bowel is nearly completely closed!
they've made me an emergency appointment to see my doctor but what do you guys think there going to do?
at the moment im on
humira, pentasa, azathioprine and something else that I always forget the name of.
this may be tmi but ive also only passed a bowel movement once since it and it was only a tiny bit

It depends on what is causing the obstruction. Did they say if it was inflammation or scar tissue? When is your apt. and did they advise you on eating/drinking?

they said it was very large ulcers & lots of them & lots of inflammation, I haven't got the appointment yet because my hospital is very busy so it takes a while. They didn't tell me to do anything so ive just been eating normally

Are you in pain? I am surprised that they did not move you directly to hospital if it is truly blocked. Plus if you were fully blocked there would be other effects too (vomiting etc).

For mine they did a resection but it was a mechanical blockage not inflammation. Others have made comments about getting steroid ivs etc to get the inflammation under control perhaps that is what they will do.

I am sure someone who has gone through this type of obstruction will reply to you soon. I hope that you are better quickly!

no pain at all, they said that even the air to pump it up to get the camera through couldnt pass through. So I thought it was weird too, but I only saw the nurse who discharge you after having the colonoscopy so I havent spoke to my doctor about it yet.
Im quite scared though because ive eaten alot of food since it because ive been to a wedding and two birthdays and no bowel movements! eeek

Oh, I sure hope they see you very soon indeed! Where did they say the stricture was? I would urge you to stop eating solids for the time being, especially as you havent had a bowel movement. Water, powerade, juices.

If you have any pain, nausea or vomiting, fever, or any other symptoms that just dont feel right....get yourself to the ER. It is possible they will put you on IV steriods to get the inflammation down, as Luna said. A blockage like that can get serious in a hurry, so please be very careful.

One important thing I would do is be careful about your diet right now. I would recommend a low residue diet - or use a food processor to mash up anything you might eat that could cause an obstruction. Examples would include vegetables, onions, tomato chunks or other hard to digest items.

I'm in a similar boat and will have surgery soon.

Here's a link for info on a low residue diet

I've only ever had partial bowel obstructions and they were quite painful, so I'm quite surprised you're pain-free. Although I suppose the difference could lie in what causes the obstruction? Anyway, I'm certainly no doctor, but if it were me I'd go on a full liquid diet and call your doctor as soon as possible. I know I was hospitalized (not by my preference) for just a partial bowel obstruction, so I'm fairly certain a full bowel obstruction should not be taken lightly. Good luck!
