Breaking Point

Hi everyone.

My name is Shelbe, I am 23 years old and I was diagnosed with Crohn's in September of 2012. It's been all down hill from there.

I've been on Mezavant for a long time and it really hates me.

I'm currently having the worst flare up I've ever gone through - and it's been lasting for over a month now. I've been to the emergency but they didn't care (the health care system in Nova Scotia is bull.) Now I'm waiting to be put on Humira but I am so poor and it costs so much. I work full time in a terrible call centre and it's causing so much stress for me. I haven't been able to eat or drink or sleep and it's making me weak and I'm having convulsions on the toilet. There's also a LOT of blood happening.

A girl I'm speaking with has told me that she used essential oils and is currently in remission for her Crohn's. This is something I am 100% looking into as I can't deal with this anymore.

On top of the Crohn's, I also suffer from depression, hallucinations, anxiety and paranoia (I'm seeing psychotherapist) and I had my thyroid out because I was diagnosed with cancer in 2011.

My life has been nothing but hell since I graduated in 2011 and I need all the support and help I can get.

Thank you, <3.

Hi Shelbe
Sorry to hear you are having such a tough time
Some drug companies will help patients to get the drug they need and it could be worth you asking the company that makes Humira for compassionate assistance.Just give them a call to find out.
Also your GI should be helping you in this regard.
You definitely need help very soon when you have such blood loss ...please get in touch with your GI for immediate help....failing that you will need to go to the emergency dept.
Feel better soon
Hugs and best wishes

I have seen him and all he did was say "hey, let's put you on Humira." He has done nothing to help me. He's one of the more busy GI docs so it's incredibly difficult to get in to see him. I feel like the entire health system here is giving me the complete run-around and it's driving me up the wall.

Thank you.

I'm sorry you're having such a hard time. Stress definitely makes me worse, so I had to change jobs. In Ontario, we have the Exceptional Access Program, which is geared to income. I pay a deductible. I'm not sure what you have there, but I found this link http://novascotia.ca/dhw/pharmacare/
I'm thinking my doctor applied for it, but it's been a while.

I'd definitely get a second opinion! I'm so sorry you've been going through so mch! I know stress can make it worse also! We also have a few programs that help with paying for medicines like humira. I'd look around! Or ask your dr to try something else! Just remember that when you hit rock bottom the only other place to go is up! Just try and think of the positive things in your life :) You are a warrior and an inspiration :) Praying that you get through this flare up soon!

I completely feel your frustration. I too live in Halifax, and have had issues for several years, and am still trying to get a confirmed diagnosis. I saw Dr. Johnson at the VG for my colonoscopy on May 27, he said he would see me within 6 weeks to go over the lab results...got my appointment notice yesterday, and its not until Aug 25!! The waiting game and lack of specialist care in Halifax is terrible. Hang in there, and keep pushing. Try and avoid the walk in clinics, any issue I have I go to emergency and they page Dr. Johnson, since wait times for my GP are usually 3-4 weeks, and trying to reach Dr. Johnson secretary to get an appointment is impossible. GI staff in Halifax are overworked and underpaid. Just not enough of them to go around.
