Can i find a better medication regime

Hi folks
I am John from Carlisle in the north of England.
I am 67 and still work as a Service engineer visiting peoples homes to repair heating plant .
I was diagnosed with Ulcerative proctitis after a colonoscopy about 24 months ago . This was followed by a course of Steroid suppositories for a month, followed by mesalazine suppositories. Initially treatment seemed effective.
About a year ago I found myself suffering from serious constipation. My GP then prescribed Macrogol for relief of this.
It seem that it is "contraindicated"for sufferers of this condition.

My Job takes me into rural areas where public toilets are not always at hand. I find myself needing to "go", often quite urgently, and I am finding i have to plan my itinerary around public loos but imagine the discomfort when you get there and find the only cubicle "out of order" or occupied buy someone who takes ages.

If I take two sachets then I am generally comfortable especially when the morning is over (I sometimes take a diarrhoea relief tablet to settle things)
If I only take one sachet then after a few days I will become bloated and will need to take 3 or 4 to clear the obstruction. Finding a balanced dose seems impossible.

It concerns me that I may have to give up work if I cannot find a solution.
There was an advice line run by the hospital department with a dedicated advisor. This has now ceased.
My GP seems concerned but clearly GPs are not specialists so I suspect I am going through a process of trial and error with regard to the medication prescribed .

Has anyone had similar symptoms relieved and if so, by what medication regime ?
Thanks in anticipation
John

That is one reason I registered here . To sound out those with similar problems before I go back to my GP
Your response isn't really much help to me .
Does anyone else have anything constructive to say

Ron is right, you should get another appointment with a GI specialist, not with a GP for proctitis. There is no possible way a GP can prescribe other upper classes of medication for your condition because these need very specialized surveillance. You tried the first line medication. If you need to move up the ladder in terms of medications, only a GI can help you.
