Can't get into doctor

My flare up has been going on for almost six weeks now and i still cant get into a specialist. There isn't one where I live and the closest one to me is booked for a few more weeks. My symptoms have been getting worse, and the apriso I'm taking seems to have stopped working. I've been working on my diet but that isn't helping either. This is probably the worst flare up I've had in a few years. I don't know what to do, I really have been needing to go to a doctor but I can't. :(

Can you explain to your parents about your symptoms getting worse? I am sure if they understood how you felt, they would want to help.

If you're in a lot of pain or have fever, you should probably be seen by a doctor.

Have you (or have your parents) called and asked to be put on the cancellation list for the new specialist?

Alternatively, if your pediatrician calls the pediatric GI and he/she may be able to get you in quicker. That is what our pediatrician did for my daughter - she was losing weight quickly and the earliest appt. was months away. She called and my daughter was seen that same week.

My family thinks it needs to be a big immediate emergency in order to go to the hospital, they know about all my symptoms but they don't seem to think they can do anything. My pediatrician couldn't call the GI because their office is so far away, the two offices don't know each other. I am already on the cancellation list.

If your family can get you in to see your pediatrician perhaps you could explain the situation (and with the help of one or both of your parents, I would hope) and request that your pediatrician call your GI. Even though they are not personally acquainted doctors will listen to other doctors who call and request appointments. Some physicians are better at this than others, but it can be, and is done. Most doctors have time available for emergencies (which is why we often have to wait when we do have appointments, but it's important that really sick people are seen urgently. Can you sit down with your parents and explain that this is what you would like/need to do? Do they think you are "just complaining"? Has either of them ever had a chronic disease? Many people don't understand chronic illness, but I would hope your parents would at least listen to you. When is your actual appointment?

I know how you feel I am 18 and I have been in pain for the passed week with a low grade fever, server abdomen pain dirrhea and I think it's getting worse. I have screamed at my mother to call my doctor but she said from her understanding there's nothing to do, and that it's probably what you ate and the bug that's going around I have a appointment in a few days but I believe it's getting worse. This started in the beginning of the month like on the 3rd or 4th day in may and I called them the first sign of what my doctor told me to call. They would fit me in this week. I really think that they should have a few spots open if you have a flare up. I hope you are able to get in soon because you are young.
