Cat's Halloween hobby

Cat, I think if your hubby already makes PVC items then the guns should be super easy for him. They make them and spray paint them dif colors. I do believe w the creativity you both have it will be a breeze! I may be able to help you and disect JJs and figure out the pieces he needs ! LOL

Thanks again! Hopefully you won't have to dissect your son's marshmallow shooter. I'm going to google tonight and look for instructions on how to make your own. I'm guessing though that hubby will probably know basically what to do just by looking at the picture of the marshmallow gun.

I'm reviving this thread because Halloween is rapidly approaching! I went to the dollar store today and they already had Halloween decorations out. Hubby and I have an idea for costumes but haven't really started work on them yet. We did buy some materials but that's as far as we've gotten so far. We'll be starting work soon though - only another 2 1/2 months to go! :) Anybody else planning their Halloween costume yet?

OMG I love Halloween! My husband and I got married on the 30th (in 2010) so that we could always host a Halloween party near our annaversary. Since I have been so sick this year, I have been feeling pale and dead on a regular basis. I am thinking of channeling this into a ghost costume. I don't sew or anything, but I am wanting something prettier than your traditional white sheet with eye holes costume. I might enlist some sewing help, but ideas would be appreciated.

Woohoo it's costume time again! I love when this thread comes up Cat! :)

Now you know what I'm going to say to your question...we don't do halloween down under! :voodoo:

Mondo, my first flare was in October 2009 so I can relate to feeling pale and dead on Halloween! Do you have any friends who sew who might be able to help you put together a costume? Otherwise, maybe you could just get a long white dress and wear a white wig and go as a lovely pale white specter. You could go crazy with it, wear white lipstick and paint your nails white, etc.

Dusty, you should start a new trend and bring Halloween to the Aussies! It's really very fun, it's a big thing here. My city always has a HUGE Halloween party downtown - we're a college town so all the college kids come out in costume and it's always quite the sight to behold. And the little kids go trick-or-treating which is adorable too to see little ones in their costumes. You should have a Halloween party and get everyone you know to dress up in costume - I bet they'd have a lot of fun! :) I love everything about Halloween as I'm sure you know. I like watching scary movies, I like candy, I like decorating my house with a spooky theme, and of course I like costumes! It's the best holiday as far as I'm concerned. :D

Cat where are you?!?!?!

Even this muddled wombat knows Halloween is fast approaching!!!

Come on, spill it! What's the theme this year?

Dusty.

I love Halloween! I already have my house decorated! Over the summer we went to Germany and I got one of those wench dresses, okay, a Drindl. That is what I am going to wear this year. Usually I am spooky, but this year I will be wenchy. lol

wait, dirndl, not drindl....oh and my dog has many outfits. She hates clothing though. This year she might go as a streaker and just be naked like she likes it. hahaha

I'm here, Dusty! Sorry, been busy with work and more health issues than usual (still in remission, but in the past 2 weeks I've had a cold, gastritis pain due to GERD going crazier than usual, and then just to top it all off I pinched a nerve in my neck/back!). I hope to do a bit of sewing this weekend. I have been slacking a bit costume-wise so I need to get going on those.

As for what we're going to be, we're going a little lower-key than we have the past couple of years. Does anyone here watch Futurama? We're going as characters from that show - specifically Zapp Brannigan and Kif Kroker. (I'll be Kif and hubby will be Zapp.) These two guys:

http://www.sitcomsonline.com/photopost/data/823/cap653.jpg

I couldn't find a good full-body image of both of them in a quick google image search, but if you're familiar with the show, you know that they don't wear pants! Their uniforms just barely cover their tushes like a little skirt. That should be interesting to make! Hubby's making the masks and I'm making the suits (and I'll be making leggings too as I'm not going to paint my bare legs green - don't want it all to hang out plus it's always freezing cold here on Halloween, so fleece leggings are in order for both of us). So yeah, they say in the show several times that their uniforms are made from velour, so I have some burgundy-colored velour fabric and will be working on uniforms this weekend, and if I have time I'll get some fleece and make leggings too. With velour and fleece, at least we'll be warm this year! :)

KW, that sounds cool, I want to see pictures! Like prplkow said, my dog doesn't like dressing up either (I bought her Halloween-themed dog pajamas last year and she barked angrily at me until I took them off - she hated them!). I actually haven't decorated my house yet, but that's also on the hopeful plan for the weekend (assuming my health doesn't throw any other roadblocks at me!).

Oh, and here's some good news - I got a new mini-camcorder, and I'm getting a new digital camera too (I'll hopefully get that before Halloween) so I plan on taking lots of photos and video this year! Just over 3 weeks to go, I am getting excited, just gotta get my costuming going!

Woohoo Cat! Can't wait to see the pics! :):):)

Not woohooing about the health issues though. :( I hope the GI gets onto your test results and you soon have lasting relief.

Thanks Dusty. My GI and I have been playing phone-tag today so hopefully we get ahold of each other soon to discuss the results. I'm feeling better physically today, just in a grumpy mood (I vented about this in another thread, but in a nutshell, tomorrow is the 3 year anniversary of my being ill, and that always puts me in a sour mood).

I didn't get any costuming done this weekend unfortunately. Had too much other stuff to do, particularly I had to go see my grandfather as it was his birthday (81) and he's not doing so well health-wise so I try to visit as often as I can. So that took priority over costuming. But hopefully soon I'll get some sewing done! Halloween is sneaking up, the big party in my city is on the Saturday before Halloween so I have to be done by the 27th! Eek, less than 3 weeks now!

Oh, but a bit of good news - I did get my new digital camera (16 megapixels!) so I have a few weeks to learn how to use it. My old digital camera is like 5 megapixels and is 6 years old so it was time for an upgrade. It was an early birthday/xmas gift from my mom (I may have hinted to her what I wanted by sending her the exact make & model of camera that I wanted, ha ha). Halloween is a more fun holiday than xmas anyway so I'm happy to get my gift early! :D

I did a bunch of sewing and made a lot of progress on the costumes last weekend, I'm quite pleased with that. :D I hope to finish things up this coming weekend - hubby has to work all weekend and I work best when I have no distractions, so that will be ideal. Only 10 days now until the big Halloween gathering here! I'm getting excited, I need to start watching my favorite Halloween movies and specials. MJ's Thriller, Garfield's Halloween special, the Nightmare before Xmas, oh and my favorite scary movie - Saw! Anybody else watch scary movies or Halloween specials to get in the Halloween mood?

Ooh! I'm getting so excited for our Halloween party too. My husband and I always watch Trick R Treat. This year I'm going to try to cook up some ghoulish treats for the party. One is a jello salad that looks like bloody guts....yummy...
My no-sew costume (I'm using fabric glue...lol) is almost finished. There have been a few bumps in the road of its creation, but I think it will all work out. Plus my first injections of Cimzia have been helping!

Mondowicked, there's nothing wrong with a no-sew costume, we've made a few of those too! My hubby has gotten really good at making masks using hot melt glue with foam and fleece - our Statler & Waldorf masks, his Beast mask, my Princess Peach mask, his entire Bowser suit and both of the entire suits of Kang & Kodos - he made those all without sewing a stitch, they're all held together entirely with glue! It's quite sturdy that way too, we've never had a problem with things falling apart, hot melt glue is very strong apparently. Hubby can't sew at all but this year there was some sewing AND some gluing involved. Hubby made the masks this year and I sewed the outfits.

And as of today, 10/25, two days before the big Halloween party, I'm happy to report that our masks are done and the bulk of the outfits are sewed - I have a few minor touches to complete but that won't take long at all. I took the day off work tomorrow so that I'd have plenty of time for that, and then I can relax until it's time to party on Sat night! It's going to be very cold here on Saturday - the high temp is 46 and the low is 28 fahrenheit (or for those who do celsius, about 8 degrees for the high temp and -2 for the low - brrr!). Fortunately, our costumes are head to toe fleece this year so we'll be as warm as we can be. Warmer than I was as Princess Belle last year anyway - bare shoulders and arms, plus I had bronchitis at the time and it was about 30 degrees F outside - that was really cold! I'm looking forward to full body fleece this year. :p

Photos will be posted hopefully on Sunday on our Halloween website - for those who'd like the link again, here it is (click on any year on the left side to see all the photos from that year):
http://halloweeners.deviantart.com/gallery/

If anyone else gets a good photo of themselves in costume, I'd love to see it here! Happy Halloween everybody! :D

Happy Pre Halloween weekend! I think I posted my costume pictures in an album, but they are turned crooked. My friend said that I am Sue Laing from our favorite board game Ghost Stories. What you cannot see is that I glow in the dark! It's kinda creepy. :hallo3:

It's getting to be that time of year again! :D Let's talk about Halloween! Does anybody know what they're dressing up as yet? Anybody started work on their costume?

My hubby and I have decided to make costumes that he's been wanting to do for years now. I finally caved in and let him have his way this year. :p He's a huge Looney Toons fan, so we're dressing up as Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd - specifically, from the "What's Opera, Doc?" cartoon. Bugs as Brunhilda and Elmer in his viking-esque outfit with his "spear and magic helmet". Unfortunately we won't be able to bring the spear downtown, as anything even vaguely weapon-like is strictly prohibited (in years past they have confiscated canes and also pink plastic swords, so I'm sure a spear would just get confiscated by the police too). But we'll likely make a spear just to be completists and for taking photos prior to going downtown.

If you're not familiar with the outfits or with this cartoon, here's a couple pictures (I couldn't find a good one of both of them together). Hubby will be Elmer:

I will be Bugs as Brunhilda:
600full-whats-opera-doc-screenshot.jpg

We haven't put in a lot of work on these yet so nothing to share except for the idea so far. But I am getting excited to start making these! Going to hit the fabric shop really soon to start stocking up on grey fleece for Bugs. Not really sure how we're going to make Elmer - he'll have a foam head, but the armor worries me slightly. Cardboard isn't great, fabric won't look right - we need to brainstorm more on that. We need like a barrel that's slightly tapered and will keep its shape that we can cut the bottom out of, or something like that. Hmmmm!

Love it! You will definitely have to post pictures. My neighbor put her decos up yesterday. I haven't yet. >sigh< I always get bummed when someone beats me to it. lol I don't know why. I am so happy when people decorate, I just want to do it first. ;-) Still don't know what I am going to be yet though. I have two pugs. I got bat wings for my black pug and "saddle" with a tiny jockey on it for the fawn pug to wear. :rof:

Prplkow, do your pugs like dressing up? I have a couple costumes for my corgi, but she hates wearing them! I got her Halloween pajamas on clearance a couple years ago, they are seriously adorable, but she grrrs at me the whole time I'm trying to put them on her and then she tries to wriggle out of them. So no dressing up for my pooch!

I haven't decorated yet either. But I went to the grocery store over the weekend and I see that they already have pumpkins for sale! That seems really early to me, if you buy and carve a pumpkin now, surely it will have started rotting by the time Halloween actually gets here?

Does anyone else get into the spirit by watching scary movies? I have all 7 "Saw" movies on DVD (my guilty pleasure) and I try to have a Saw movie marathon around this time of year. I also have the Garfield Halloween special on DVD which I need to watch at least a couple times. :)

What about a thin plastic for Elmer's armor, kind of like they use to make those oversize dog collars?

I'm sure they'll be awesome Cat. They always are!!

Mark, hubby and I brainstormed armor ideas last night, and he's thinking of metallic tag board with some sort of structure built up behind it to keep its shape. I'm not sure if that'll still be too flimsy, but we'll play around with it and see how it goes. Where would a person buy a big sheet of thin plastic like that - hardware store?

I'm not quite sure how to do Bugs' chest either. The t-shirt part will be easy, but... do I get a regular bra and spray paint it gold?? Do they make gold metallic bras that look like metal (*for a reasonable price)? I just don't know what to do to make it look right, it needs to look more like metal and not overtly fabric-y. I'm going to have to see what metallic fabrics the craft store has available. We've never done anything like viking armor before, fortunately it's cartoony so we can take some liberties, but this is going to be a tough one and I want to do it right.

You may have sworn them off but Hobby Lobby is probably the best bet. If not, a Parent/Teacher supply store may have what you need.

LOL...one of my pugs likes to be dressed up, but the other does not. She will stay in the outfit long enough for a picture.

I put up decorations yesterday. The little three year old next door wanted to know why my giant spider was not up yet and requested that I decorate. Outside is done. I am remodeling the kitchen/dining/living rooms, so no decorations inside this year. =(

Mark, why would I swear off Hobby Lobby? There's a Hobby Lobby right near my gym. Their yarn selection is mediocre and for some reason they always have xmas ornaments for sale no matter what time of year it is, and they're uber-religious which is off-putting to me, but I've certainly bought plenty of craft supplies from them over the years. I do prefer Ben Franklin - there's a very retro old school Ben Franklin store that has a good yarn selection and their prices are very good, so I like shopping there (they sell a lot of old-school candy like candy cigarettes there too!). And there's a craft mart near my hubby's work that is huge although a bit pricey. So I have multiple craft store options to check out for supplies. Hubby has to work Saturday and possibly Sunday - if he's off Sunday, we're going to run around town and buy a bunch of costuming supplies.

Prplkow, that's adorable about the kid next door asking you to decorate! :)

The hubby and I went shopping today for costume-making materials. We bought a bunch of fleece, foam, etc. Not too expensive either - I had budgeted $100 for Halloween supplies, and we spent about $60 so far. Now the fun part starts, sewing the outfits and sculpting the foam! I used pretty much all my energy today in shopping for materials, so I hope to do some sewing tomorrow.

Mark, my hubby wanted to go get some metallic gold tagboard and then build some sort of armiture to give it structure - but, the place we used to get gold tagboard from apparently doesn't carry it anymore. We found it at another store but it was like $5 a sheet, which is crazy expensive, so we didn't get any. We instead went to the hardware store and bought some metallic gold spray paint - now we just have to figure out how to build the structure and what to make it out of. :p I'm leaving that part up to hubby. I'll let you know what he ends up doing for the armor.

I worked on my costume quite a bit on Sunday. On Saturday I had bought a bunch of light grey fleece to make Bugs, and I also got some pink satin to make the skirt. On Sunday, I sewed myself a pair of fleece leggings for Bugs' legs - those leggings are so soft & warm, and they were so easy to make (I got an "easy" pattern), that I now want to make myself a few more pairs just to wear around the house in winter! :p I sewed myself Bugs' skirt too, I just made a simple wrap skirt out of pink satin. It's awfully short, but I'll be wearing the leggings under it of course. Oh, and we got a long blonde wig and braided it into pigtails, so that'll be incorporated into the foam mask once it's further along. Hubby started making the masks but he hasn't made much progress just yet.

My quest now is to find myself a gold-ish t-shirt and bra to wear. I'm honestly not sure what to do about the bra - I'm thinking I'll take a strapless bra I have and cover it with gold fabric. Either that or I'll make something from scratch, not sure yet. Other than that, I need to get myself white gloves and I need to make grey fleece sleeves for Bugs' arms. Hubby's making my mask and my feet, and I'm making his pants (I'm just going to make baggy fleece sweatpants so that won't be difficult at all). So yeah, I feel like I'm making good progress!

If we can finish by the 19th, I think I heard there's a costume contest on that date that we might go and enter. If not, we definitely have to have our costumes done by the 26th, as that's when the big downtown party is this year. So that's less than 3 weeks, eek! Good thing I'm under the influence of corticosteroids right now and suddenly have lots of energy to work on the costumes. :p

Absolutely! We always take a lot of pics. Pics will happen either on the 19th or the 26th, whenever we get the costumes finished and officially unveil them. :) My hubby's working all weekend, but he's off Wed-Fri this week. So I'm hoping he can get some work done then on his end of things. I'm hoping to work on if not finish sewing everything this weekend. I don't have much more to sew, so that's feasible. I need to go buy a bit more fabric - I did a search on google shopping for a gold t-shirt like what Bugs wears, and I really couldn't find anything acceptable. So I'm going to have to go look for some shiny gold (satin?) fabric and will make myself the t-shirt. I'm also going to look for a contrasting brighter gold fabric to make the bra. Wish me luck... I might need it! Gold lame' is too thin & flimsy, which is why I'm tentatively thinking satin. And if I can just get an interesting piece of gold fabric from the remnant bin for the bra, that'd be ideal. I need some good luck at the fabric store!

So yeah, my job this year is to make all of Bugs except for the head and feet. For hubby's costume, I'm making Elmer's pants and that's about it. Those will be easy, baggy grey fleece sweatpants. I already made Bugs' legs and skirt, so I have to make the shirt, bra, and arms. Hubby has a lot of work to do - he needs to make Elmer's head (the helmet will be part of the head), armor, shoes, and Bugs' head and feet. I know he can make the heads, he's getting better every year at making foam heads, but the armor still concerns me. He's never disappointed me in the past though, so I'm sure he'll figure something out! He just needs to work quickly, especially if we want to be done by the 19th! Time is starting to become a bigger concern than the armor is!

Okay, so it looks like we don't need to worry about the 19th. I looked more into it and there is a costume contest on that day, but the grand prize is a gift certificate to a shop that I don't really want/need to buy anything from, so we'll skip that one. I haven't heard about any other costume contests this year, so we'll just plan on having our costumes done by the 26th so we can wear them downtown for the big street party.

I'm a bit worried about photos & security this year. We usually meet up with a couple friends of ours who tend to not wear costumes, but they like to hang out with us. They are great about taking photos and video and keeping the drunks away from us. I guess the female of the couple just broke her wrist badly though and needed to have surgery, so now I don't know if they'll be coming downtown this year. Hubby called them but they haven't called us back yet. We sometimes meet up with other people, but my friend who we used to meet up with has flaked out on us in recent years and other friends' attendance has been even more sporadic. So, we might be on our own this year, which isn't great. Sometimes there are drunken idiots who like to slap, shove, even headbutt people in costume. I got smacked in the head twice last year even with our friends along! I'm not looking forward to potentially taking even more abuse this year. (Yes, there are lots of cops patrolling the street party, but they never seem to be around when a drunk idiot wants to start trouble.)

I don't know what it is about alcohol and Halloween - in 2006 when we worked at a haunted house, I took a ridiculous amount of abuse. People pushed, shoved, punched, kicked me - I went home bruised and battered every night. That's the main reason I haven't been back to work at the haunted house since that year! It was fun at times, awful at others, pretty tedious most of the time (you're assigned to one room so you jump out and scare people over and over during the course of several hours). People were given a specific warning before entering the haunted house, "Do NOT touch the cast and they won't touch you!" Nobody seemed to listen to the rules though.

So Excited! Can't wait to live vicariously through you and see your costume and hear all about your Halloween! You've got some crazy awesome skills from what I have seen Cat! And Looney Tunes, I never would have thought to do those particular characters. It's going to be a bit challenging but such a great idea. I know you two will make it look fantastic! :)

I will be Bugs as Brunhilda:
600full-whats-opera-doc-screenshot.jpg

Thanks Chicago! :) The Bugs & Elmer costumes we're making this year, that was all my hubby's idea. He's an animator, and classic Looney Toons cartoons are probably his favorite thing ever (he could go on and on about how the frame rate per second was so much higher during the era of classic Looney Toons and that's why they move so fluidly, etc). He could watch them all day if I let him, and this particular cartoon ("What's Opera, Doc?") is one of his favorites. He's been wanting to do these costumes for years, and I finally said okay to the idea this year. It's a pretty famous cartoon, but still, I'm concerned that not a lot of people will know specifically who we're dressed as, or if they'll be confused as to why I'm sexy lady Bugs and hubby is viking Elmer. :p That's my one big concern - are these costumes too niche or too nerdy for most people to get? Most of the people who go downtown are college-age kids, so at the risk of sounding like a very old person, do kids these days even know who Bugs and Elmer are? Did they grow up watching these cartoons like us 30-somethings did?

Other than that, though, these costumes seem fun and the logistics are good. Wearing grey fleece to be Bugs means that I'll be warm, wearing a foam mask means I can wear my glasses (I *hate* wearing contact lenses!), and I won't have to wear makeup (I always worry that I'm going to smudge it or smear it somehow). I get to be a little sexy while still being totally covered up, and I think of the two, Bugs is way cooler than Elmer. :p My hubby usually gets the cooler costume. Like, when we were Edward Scissorhands and Kim Boggs (Winona Ryder's character, in the white "snow dance" dress), nobody knew who I was but the hubby was obviously easily recognizable as Edward. Other years it's been similar although not quite that bad - I know, nobody knows who Kim Boggs is and only a few people asked me if I was "supposed to be Winona." Live and learn! :p I'm just hoping people know who Bugs (dressed as Brunhilda) is!

Well, I found some pretty good gold fabrics to make Bugs' shirt and bra - a darker gold for the shirt and a brighter, more "disco" gold for the bra. I have enough sewing projects to keep me occupied all weekend now! (Once I'm done making the costume, I want to sew myself more pairs of fleece leggings just to wear around the house in the winter - so warm and cozy!) So yeah, I still have to make my shirt, bra, arms/sleeves, and hubby's pants. That shouldn't be too bad - I am flying blind, not using a proper pattern for any of this stuff, but that's okay - I hardly ever use patterns when I sew. I am glad that I used a pattern for the leggings this year though, as last year I just winged it for hubby's and my leggings for Kif & Zapp, and my leggings just didn't fit quite right. The leggings I made for Bugs from a pattern, they fit perfectly and I want more! :p

But yeah, I often just wing it. You know that old saying, measure twice & cut once? My saying goes more like, eyeball it and wing it and then make adjustments as needed! ;) So I'm going to use one of my t-shirts as sort of a pattern or at least to get a good idea of how to sew Bugs' shirt, and I'm going to use a pair of hubby's sweatpants as a guide to make slightly baggier pants for Elmer. I think I'm just going to cover an existing strapless bra I have with the gold fabric rather than make something completely from scratch - if I feel Bugs should be bustier than I am, I can put a bit of padding in between the fabric and the bra. The sleeves, I am just going to eyeball that. How hard can it be to make a couple of grey fleece sleeves, right? So there's a peek into the madness that is me sewing. :p It's kind of dangerous but also fun!

My philosophy is eyeball and wing it too Cat...then it's off to Home Depot for more and I'm more careful the next time!

Ha ha Mark, thanks for the reminder that I should stick to sewing and not get into anything like woodworking! :p At least I can get out my seam ripper and undo some of my sewing mistakes (can't undo cutting the fabric wrong obviously though).

No Halloween costumes here!

Bloody hell, sounds like there is a bit of biffo down town! :eek2:

I reckon if you want the college to know who you are then dress...K Pop!

Happy costuming!

Dusty, the big Halloween street party downtown is actually a lot better than it was. Prior to about 2007, the downtown party was not regulated at all and the night would often end with huge riots! Literally trash cans on fire, lots of windows being broken, downtown was just a mess the next day. In I think 2007, they decided to fence off downtown, put up lots of lights and have lots of cops around, shut things down at around 1 AM before people got too crazy drunk & rowdy (for the record, hubby and I have always left downtown before midnight, as we find the crowd gets too big and too drunk for our liking by then). So yeah, it's better than it was. Pre 2007, I recall at least once having to leap back from someone who as about to barf on my shoes! It hasn't been that bad since, the police are quick to make arrests of anyone who is being problematic (I saw a guy moon the crowd post-2007, and the cops had cuffs on him before he could even pull up his pants!). But the cops still can't seem to catch the people who quickly "hit and run" if you will. And since things have been less rowdy in recent years, they seem to cut down on the number of police present each year, which is getting a little scary to me. I'm tempted to start a riot myself just to get more police presence back! :p Just kidding, but it's seeming like that's what it's going to take.

So I had a super lazy weekend and didn't do ANY costuming. :( Just didn't feel up to it, have been rather exhausted lately. I know there's now less than 2 weeks left until the big reveal so I really, REALLY need to get going!

I did a bit of costume work last night - on Tuesdays, I get home from work about an hour before hubby does, so I used that time to make his pants. He had just requested that I make him baggy fleece sweatpants for his Elmer costume, so I used a pair of his sweatpants as a guide and made the fleece pants a bit bigger & baggier. They turned out quite well! I had to wait for hubby to get home to finish the pants (I needed to measure his waist to know how much elastic to use in the waistband), but I did get them completely finished last night. Yay, pants. :) It's coming along slowly but surely. Only 10 days to go though so I'm getting nervous!

I finally got my hubby to make some progress on our masks! (He's been slacking on the whole costuming thing this year.) He spent the whole day yesterday on them, but I was at work so he couldn't measure my mask to see if it fit my head correctly. I got home, tried it on... wayyy too tight and it squished my nose! Not good! That made hubby super depressed, but I dragged him along to the gym with me yesterday evening, and a good workout seemed to make him more chipper. After we got home from the gym, he picked up my mask and made a few small tweaks, and then it fit me perfectly. :) Phew!

I also had a brainstorm about how to make Bugs' shirt and bra. At first I was thinking, make a gold shirt as a stand-alone, and then take a bra I already own and somehow cover it with contrasting gold fabric. I wasn't really sure how I was going to do that though. Then yesterday I thought, make a gold shirt, cut out bra-cup shapes from the contrasting gold fabric and glue/sew them directly onto the shirt - so it's all one piece. Wear a padded bra underneath the shirt to amplify the boobage (Bugs is more stacked than I am, ha ha), and that should give enough of an illusion of the gold bra look, without the work of making a gold bra out of an existing bra. That way I won't have to worry about bra straps, or the bra falling down, or about potentially ruining one of my existing bras. What do you guys think, good idea? I think I can make it work!

So I have a cold. Whenever I get a cold, it makes my guts act up. I'm in day 2 of nausea & fatigue, and in day 3 of mucusy d. Hopefully this blows over soon - I would very much like to be feeling better by Saturday. Even if I'm not, I'll still head downtown to walk around in costume. 2 years ago when I was princess Belle, I had bronchitis that year but managed to walk around outside in the cold for hours anyway and I didn't feel awfully worse the next day. It was still fun and still worth it. But, it's more fun if I'm not feeling sick, so it would be nice to get over this cold before Saturday!

Hubby's making good progress on his end of things. My Bugs mask is nearly finished, and he's made good progress on my Bugs feet too. For his Elmer armor, he ended up buying a plastic garbage can, cutting the bottom out and cutting armholes in it and spray painting it gold. I figured he'd end up doing something like that, and I think it'll look okay. He still needs to do some work on his Elmer mask - he tried making one with Elmer having an angry face, but it's just not looking right, so he's going to re-work it to give Elmer a happier expression.

As for me, I just need to put the finishing touches on my shirt, make myself some Bugs sleeves out of grey fleece, and a few other odds and ends. I'm still debating whether or not to make a bunny tail - if you watch the whole cartoon, Bugs at times has a tail and at other times just has a sexy lady booty in white panties (I think some of the animators were confused and/or a little pervy). :p I probably will make a tail, then safety-pin it on to see how it looks. If it looks weird with the skirt then I'll go with the panties option instead. And if it looks okay safety pinned on, then my other option is to do both - wear white panties over the grey fleece leggings, and then pin on the tail over the panties. I'm hoping that looks okay. I'm just afraid that having a tail with a short skirt will mean my skirt doesn't look right. So I'll have to play around with my options there.

Thanks Dusty! I've had some issues with my energy levels being rather low lately, and I started petering out a bit early at the street party this year. We left around 10 or 10:30 PM, which is a little earlier than we usually leave, but my hubby was happy to get out of there too. The crowd was getting too crowded, it was hard for both of us to walk what with my big bunny feet and hubby's big cumbersome armor. We got some good photos and saw a few good costumes and spent some time with our one friend who made it downtown this year. (We usually meet up with a group of people, but most of our friends couldn't make it for various reasons, so only one friend showed up this year to hang out with us.) So, not too bad. We left before the drunks were very drunk so we didn't get beat up this year. The only inappropriate touching was, I had a bunny tail, and a few people tried touching my tail. Nobody hit me though which was nice. ;)
