Crohn's coming back, help!

Hi, I'm pretty new on this forum, and I was diagnose for crohn's a few years ago. Two years ago I've had a pretty bad episodes of flare ups and so I ended up getting surgery. I was symptom free for more than a year but I feel like recently my crohns is coming back. I'm starting to develop mild symptoms like before and I'm getting worried. I really don't want to do another surgery since last time prednisone only helped the crohns temporary and came back the next month. I called my GI doctor but apparently he's not in the office for the summer and he said he's gonna book my colonoscopy last appointment for september. So i don't know if i can wait for another month before the symptoms gets worst.

So i was wondering how "bad" does your symptoms before you decide to contact the doctor? My symptoms doesn't bother me too much at the moment but I feel like its getting abit worst. I'm starting to have stomach pains so I don't usually move around much and spend most of my days on my bed. (not very active). My appetite is not too good, i'm not as excited about food as before but I don't completely hate it or starve myself. And also, since my colonoscopy is another month or more, is there anyway I can help my crohn from getting worst, like diet wise? Im not sure if I want to go to the ER room yet cause my symptoms is not severely causing me pain. But if it does get worst I would probably seek a doctor if mine hasnt come back yet.

I'm not that familiar with what I should avoid for crohn, I heard it's spicy, fried food and grains? But let me know what are some "bad guys" you eat that might be giving you a flare up, :) I know everyone's different but i'm sure it's better safe than sorry :p

And lastly, worst scenerio, when you guys are getting a flare up, do you have to stay in the hospital until you fully recover? Because last time I went to the hospital for my crohns, I had to go to the ER cause my pain was so severe. But yeah, if you're supspecting a flare up and your doctor comfirms, will they prescribe you medications or you have to stay at the hospital for them to moniter? Sorry for all the questions, I'm diagnose with crohns not too long ago and recently change my GI doctor so Im not sure how they handle patients flare up process. :S

Thanks!

Hi and welcome aboard. I'll do my best to answer atleast some of your questions.
I personally wouldn't wait to see a doctor if you think your flaring. As far as diet I'm not sure. Consider a low residue diet. There are others on this forum better able to answer that question. Just because youre in a flare doesn't mean you need to be hospitalized. I've always been given meds and had regular visits with the specialist. I've only been hospitalized when I was really sick and needed to be watched closely. Hope this is helpful. let us no if you have anyother questions.

maybe consider going on liquid diet for a while? it takes discipline but has a very good efficacy and next to no side effects.
