Crohns disease and experience with high blood pressure or kidney issues

Hello

I was diagnosed with Crohns in 1999. I have been dealing with this awful disease for many years even before the diagnosis I experienced symtoms. Since I have takebn numerous medications including going for remicade iv infusions every 7 weeks. Recently in addition i was advised I have high blood pressure and now are being asked to complete a kidney biopsy due to blood and urnie sample results. Has anyone else experienced this? I try hard every day to keep an positive outlook on this all but at times it can be hard since new things continue to pop up. Fortunately I have a great support with my girlfriend by my side. Please let me know if you have experienced this.

Welcome to the forum, Tom!

I personally haven't had any issues with blood pressure or kidney problems. You might want to check in the Remicade section of the Treatment forum, here or the General IBD Discussion forum, here. Do you or your doctors think these problems are in relation to the Remicade, or something else?

I'm glad you have your girlfriend's support! That can make such a big difference!

I hope you find answers soon, Tom! :)

Hello Tom
Welcome to the forum.
Sorry to hear you are going through a difficult time.
Prior to the Crohn's diagnosis I had high blood pressure treated first with Ramipril until signs of renal failure, then was changed to kidney sparing Avalide150/Hydrochlorthiazide 12.5.
Currently the creatinine levels are steady but abnormally high.
Tests are quite frequent at three month intervals and always just before any GI tests.
Never had any biopsies though.
The GI specialist decided it was urgent for me to receive Remicade and not wait any longer for a renal consult
I have just started Remicade and will be receiving the second treatment this week.
This treatment was delayed due to some renal issues, maybe stones, and I am on an interminable wait list for a urology appointment, which will be towards the end of March
The possible kidney problem goes back to last August so it has been a long wait.
Goodness knows what has happened in between although I feel ok in this regard.
The Crohn's control is another issue and I am hoping it will work for all my symptoms.
It is very worrying for you to face all these complications, but hopefully the biopsies will
be negative for any pathologies.
Sometimes the drugs we are taking can cause temporary abnormalities and let's hope yours will be in this category and everything will turn out better than you think.
Feel better soon
Hugs and Best WishesTrysha
