crohns for the past 16 years

Hi Everyone,

My husband was diagnosed with crohns illness when he was 14 years old now he is 30, he has been on different medications, currently he is taking Remiciade every 6 weeks, has any members have experience with alternative therapy/medicines,

thank you all,

Maryam :Flower:

I usually like to stay with the tried and true medications and not the bleeding edge. Is remicade working?

yes his remicade treatment is working, but I have been doing some research and found out that it has bad side effects,

THere are some other threads were people were dicussing side effects, I dont have those links handy. The only side effect for me is increased prespiration :) I do feel a little chilled for the better part of the day that I get it. I dont have to premedicate either. Sorry I am not much help

:welcome: Maryam...It's nice to have you here. This is a great place for support and information...Did you check out the treatment section. Many people do the alternative route here.

I too am on Remicade....So many meds have side effects, but the chronic inflammation can cause more problems...It's a tricky balancing act. How long have you been on Remicade?

There is also a Remicade club thread in the treatment section. Check it out for different people's experiences.

Good luck.

Hi I misspopcorn,

I have to look at the alternative treatment section, I found a book called Listen to your Gut by Jini Patel Thompson, who cured her crohns with the help alternative therapy, I joined this group on behalf of my husband who is a crohns patient, he has been taking remicade for about 8 years

:welcome: Maryam! What a great wife you are to come here to get information for your husband! I have been on Remicade for 6 years - and while I do not like the potential side effects - the thought of what my gut does when I'm not on it is more scary to me (read abscesses, perforations, surgery). There are a few people here who are into the alternative thing - search around and you should find a few threads. I'd be careful about doing anything super alternative if he is still on the Remi or without some guidance from a doc who understands what interactions could happen. Good luck and I'm glad you have joined us!

Welcome Maryam!

I don't have much in the way of advice as i'm just starting this journey, but wish you luck in helping your hubby with treatments that work well for him with minimal side effects.

Sorry Maryam, I must have missed the husband part......It is wonderful that you are supporting him by joining this site......I hope he feels better. One of the alternative treatments is LDN (low dose naltrexone)...There is a sub forum in the treatment section devoted to this topic....Best of luck to the both of you.
