Crohn's specialist in Wisconsin?

Where in WI are you? If you're not far from the Minnesota border, I know there's the Mayo Clinic somewhere in MN. I've never been myself, but being Mayo, they have a good reputation. I live in Madison and see Dr. Soni at UW Health (UW Hospital & Clinics system). I wouldn't really recommend him though - I've been ill for nearly 3 years now and am still technically undiagnosed (although, to his credit, I am currently in remission as he treated me with Entocort and Asacol). He isn't the best doctor, he isn't easy to get ahold of quickly and he sometimes goes on crazy whims, like he'll suddenly decide for some reason to change my meds or whatever, I'm not a fan of that. For awhile I thought I might get a second opinion from a different GI, and I still might in the future. I did a bit of research, not much, but Dr. Saha at UW Health sounded promising to me. I'm not sure if you're male or female, but if you're female, she might be a good doctor to look into. Her little blurb talks about her work with IBD in women, here's the link:

I hope that helps a little bit anyway. If all else fails, check with your insurance provider and see which GIs in your area are covered, then do some googling on those docs to try to narrow things down, that's how I came across Dr. Saha. Good luck!

I'm from Appleton, but I went to UW-Madison! Thanks to both of you for the leads. It's frustrating to feel like no one can help me even though we know what is wrong. And while prednisone helps short-term, I don't consider that to really be helpful without a long term plan in place.

Cat, I want to see her. I already called to figure out how I can get in. I feel like I'm stealing your leg work!!

How funny, I'm originally from Oshkosh, just up the road from Appleton! In high school we'd go up to Appleton all the time because of the mall there (Oshkosh has no mall, ha ha). No worries about stealing my leg work, go for it! Let me know if she's a good doctor, I might switch to her myself. Basically all I'm keeping my current GI around for is because he prescribes my Asacol which is keeping me in remission. But as I said, he goes on crazy whims sometimes, so if he ever randomly decides to stop my Asacol (he has done this at least once before) then I will switch GIs. So keep me posted on how it goes! Wishing you the best of luck! :)

I work in Oshkosh! Bit of an annoying drive (and a bit of an annoying job) but ya do what ya gotta do, right? I'm waiting on the line with my primary care so they can write me a referral to see her. I will keep you posted on when/if I get in and how it goes.

@ Cat-a-Tonic

I've been seeing Dr. Saha at UW Health for about a year and she has been excellent so far. She spends a lot of time with her patients (so is often late for appointments- but I consider that to be a good thing). She listened to my concerns and did appropriate tests and confirmed that I was flaring (something my previous GI refused to believe- because blood tests were normal). Now I am feeling better and heading back into remission. Anyway, I highly recommend. The wait time for a new appointment for her was pretty long for me, but worth it.

Thanks, Sassycat! I'm still keeping her in mind. I'm still seeing Dr. Soni - even though I'm still technically undiagnosed, he's treating me as though I have IBD and I'm back in remission myself and just taking Lialda for maintenance now. So far so good, but if he flakes out on me I will definitely keep Dr. Saha in mind.
