Ill start off by saying im a BAD speller sorry :( I came across this site and decided to share my story and get other feedback. I am 31 years old have been able to eat whatever I want never had diarrhea unless I had the flu. I was always trying new diets but other than that just normal. I went through a bad divorce with tons of stress and to relax I would drink a couple of glasses of wine a night almost every night. (for the past 3 years) I would have a breva for breakfast, something small for lunch a big dinner steak, potatoes and wine and after the wine ibuprofen. In aug. during my divorce trial I felt like I had a bladder infection except for the part that my lower back hurt bad. I have no insurance :( so I decided to go to the hospital they explained that I had a kidney infection and put me on antibiotics. I started feeling worse. I meet a new boyfriend who didn't drink so I cut way back on my drinking an felt horrible I couldn't understand it. I went back to the hospital the lower back pain was almost unbearable. The said that the antibiotics must not be working and put me on a longer dose. I started feeling better and thought that was what it was. I was still very tired but other than that ok. Then New years eve hit, and I have never been so scared in my life. I started having diarrhea not to bad thought it was the flu, took NyQuil would wake up about 10 times a night and then blood started. After about a week of pain mainly at night I went to to the hospital where they did a ultra sound and 2 days later did a colonsopy that shows that I have ultra colidus and crohns. Im on antibiotics right now and pretizone. And I saw a dietion to get me strarted on a fresh track. I meet with the doctor Thur. am hoping there are some meds out there that arent to expensive :( This whole thing has not only been scary but I cant really believe I have it. Has anyone else felt the same way? Im also so scared of going of the antibiotics. I dont want to be sick everyday :(

Hey welcome!

It is really scary at first but once you figure out what is happening it is not so bad anymore. A lot of us found out something was wrong the same kind of way. It is just that it sort of had to get pretty bad before we go looking for help, but now that you found it things will get better quickly.

Welcome Aubrey!

Stress seems to be a big trigger with Crohn's so keeping life simple really helps. I hope you can get some treatment soon and get to feeling better, meanwhile hang out here and you will get lots of support!

:welcome: Awbrey......I'm glad you found this forum. There is a ton of great info and support here. Take a look at the treatment section and you will get a better idea of what meds are out there to treat this disease.

It really is a shock to get over the diagnosis, but with time you will adjust. Good luck and let us know how your appointment goes. If you have any questions just ask.

Welcome!

Hopefully your appt. thursday can shed a bit of light on what's going on, and the best ways to manage things for you. :)

Hi Awbrey, I understand your stress of divorce, I was going through a custody battle whilst in the worst pain in my life with Crohns. But, I am not a drinker and I know alcohol is bad for Crohns so I lucked out not affecting me that way. I was a smoker, so that was my thing to get rid of. My sister has Ulcerative Colitis and Crohns, she bleeds, I dont, my brother has UC and doesnt bleed either. Even in family illnesses we are different. My sister and I are never on the same type of drug, I have insurance she dont.

Prednisone is a last drug of choice for Crohnies but a first for Gi's. It is cheap and works fast, but when you taper it slowly comes back, which is good you are on Antibiotics to help kill the bacteria growth.

Hang in there and welcome!

Welcome! I'm on antibiotics and preds also just started my taper today. I hope you are getting some relief. As far as no medical ins. really sucks. Maybe there is a thread on here about no ins. and financal stuff even when you do have ins. it is a mager stresser. And don't worry on the spelling part noone could be as bad as me and so far no jokes on my spelling :)

Hi, Awbrey! :)

As far as the expensive medicines go, I have found that there are programs in place by the companies that hold the licensing for both Pentasa and Asacol to help low/lower income people get the meds they need. You can 'Google' for your specific drug and maybe find some help.

Welcome Aubrey!

I don't know about prednisone, but I actually had a staph infection a year ago and needed to be on antibiotics for a couple months. I was told to take Florastor (probiotics) to help make sure that my gut was still colonized with "good" microbes. I would suggest either eating something with probiotics or taking them with a pill since you have been on antibiotics for some time.
