Diagnosis finally!!

After a few short months of waiting (Thank god for our GI team in Calgary I feel extremely lucky), tossing and turning at night, breaking down at work with anxiety, and worrying the ever-living daylights out of my girlfriend, I was finally diagnosed with severely active Crohn's disease yesterday morning.

Not something most people would be overly stoked about I imagine but when you spend a good 4 months semi-convinced you have colon cancer it's kind of a breath of fresh air as I'm sure many of you know.

However, being as severe as it is, my GI specialist immediately suggested a combination of Imuran (which I was able to start immediately) and anti-TNF treatments, I opted for Remicade because he seemed much more confident in it's effectiveness and my crazy work schedule would make forgetting my Humira dosage just a little bit easier.

This will be my second auto-immune disease as I was diagnosed with Addison's in early 2003 at 12 y/o. I'm ready for a challenge. I'm ready for this fight, and just the weight of having the mystery lifted is enough to make me leap from bed and bolster myself for the tasks ahead.

I'm also fortunate enough to be healthy enough to donate tissue/blood/fluid samples and brain imagery to our University's research team that have an active unit digging deeper into IBD and experimental treatments.

Thank you all for putting up with my anxious self for the last couple months, answering my many questions and feeding me most needed advice. I hope everyone has an equally fantastic day!!

I'm glad the Doc's figured it out and have you on a treatment program. You have a great attitude, which is half the battle when fighting this disease. Keep us updated on how the Remicade/Imuran combo works for you.

Thank you both!

Attitude is something that took me a bit to develop, but really, what other option do we have? :)

I'll keep you posted, I've yet to complete the trial period of Imuran/ JUST finished the preliminary testing allowing me to start Remicade but nonetheless, we're making progress!

Well wishes to all!!
