Hi, today my nurse doctor just called and said that I can no longer have popsicles or broth along with my 8 ensures per day for five more weeks. My mom forgot to ask but could I still be able to chew a piece of gum after taking them because the taste is not the best. I mean it's just gum and I won't swallow it either

If it was up to me I'd say no. See those artificial sweeteners on the gum ingredient list? If I was in charge of your diet I'd make you avoid them like the plague.

Which ensure are you taking about? As far as I can tell there are juices and shakes. The juices are not the most appetizing. But I kinda like the vanilla and butter pecan flavours. The strawberry and orange are ok. But the chocolate, vanilla and pecan butter are pretty tasty... I don't like the pudding really. I found it bland and gritty.

Did they say why they have asked you to stop broth, and popsicles....? Seems a bit severe on an Ensure diet. There is a product called 'Glee Gum' which is all natural. Maybe some candy/sweets - ask them.
good luck.

Gum has always caused me to be really gassy...not too good for my intestinal tract! Not sure how it affects you, but I'd stay away

My experience with gum has been mixed. Mint gum has sometimes controlled the nausea... But fruity sweet gum always results in stomach cramps n the works.

Thanks for all the advice, my bowel is really swollen but I am also on imuran and prednisone to, the just want to give my gut a complete rest. And banana ensure? Those do sound good but I haven't seen that flavor yet... I will try just to have a piece of gum after drinking the ensures, to dilute the flavor, but I actually like the creamsicle ones!
