I have a complex fistula that formed after a bowel rupture/resection/severe peritonitis at the site of the anastamosis and goes through to the skin though the incision. I had the surgery in October and the fistula really declared itself in late January.
Most fistulas look like 1 tunnel, I guess, but the fistulagram shows mine looks like a web. Awesome. It's also spitting out staples. Ew.
My gastro is considering TPN for 8 weeks or so if it turns out my current dose of Imuran is effective, and if it doesn't close then, then surgery.
Has anyone else had experience with a gut-to-skin fistula? Did it close? Surgery? What?
I've been on gobs of antibiotics to no avail.
