Extended right hemi...? What should I ask my surgeon

Hello,
Ive been scheduled for a extended right hemicolectomy as an open procedure. I feel a little out of my depth, I understand the basics of the procedure, but are there any really important things I should be asking my surgeon or ensuring take place to better my outcome?
Any other advice would great as this will be my first major surgery
