Fed up of waiting

I have a narrowing in my small bowel of about 10 cm with a small thickening somewhere else too! My symptoms are constipation, painful bloating when I eat or drink! I get really tired to the point of just falling to sleep even in the middle of the day?Are these all normal symptoms that other sufferers get? I am taking sertraline for depression as I'm struggling to cope with how rubbish I feel everyday, all day! I was started on azathioprine in July and infliximab infusions also! After about 3 infusions I have developed numb hands and feet which they think is a reaction so it's been stopped! Waiting for a neurology referral now!I was admitted to hospital for 5 days just before Xmas as I was in pain, acid, bloating and nausea! Waiting for an MRI scan now!Soo fed up right now as I'm struggling to eat anything and having fortisip drinks!I'm feeling alone at the moment and have two young children I'm struggling to get myself out of bed in he morning with all the aches and pains ! X

You are up very early Buttercup, here in Ontario it is just past midnight and I am shortly going to bed.
I live near Niagara Falls but all my family is in England.
It has been very bad weather here, lots of ice storms which have downed the hydro poles and caused massive breakdown of hydro ( electricity) transmissions so lots of blackouts and nothing to cook with powerwise.
They are steadily restoring it now.
I do hope that your MRI will be sooner for you, have you called the MRI department and asked to be on a cancellation list.
I did that here and they gave me an appointment within two days.
Of course it will depend on whether you can be there at short notice. Worth a try.
Some of us crohnies do get similar symptoms to yours and fatigue can be overwhelming.
I had problems with imuran and Remicade both of which had to be discontinued.
Currently I am doing fairly well with very little medication, just cortisone enemas.
Always hoping for remission.
with regard to the numbing of your hands and feet, maybe this will go since you are off medication causing it..Just have to hope for the best.
Feel better soon

Oh gosh what a nightmare! Hope normality is resumed for you soon! My daughter had me awake but eventually went back to sleep! The numbness is reversible apparently so I am hopeful! That's great you are coping with your medication and hope for remission for you!
Hate this disease

I am ALWAYS tired Buttercup. Like I could sleep for days and days. Sertraline I found made me even more sleepy. Do you take it in the morning or at night? I found if I took it in the morning I would be a zombie all day, and that was before I started with tummy issues :( Waiting is the worst part. I am in Canada and feel your pain on the waiting.

To answer your original question, your symptoms sound very much like those of others on these boards, so you might at least find some comfort in that!

It's really hard getting started on treatments, working with docs to determine the best course for you. Crohn's is a very individual disease, and each of us progresses through treatment in different ways. Hang in there, try to be patient ( I know that's hard, especially when you are so fatigued every day!), and lean on folks here for support as well as your family.

Good luck with your illness, your treatments, and let us know how things are going. We are all here to help each other.

Hi kero I take it at night too as it disturbs me sleeping at night if I take in am! Glad I'm not alone on those symptoms! Just soo fed up at the moment I'm not coping well 😢 x

I haven't even gotten a diagnosis yet. Now waiting for the referral to a GI specialist /sigh Having free healthcare is wonderful on the pocketbook but really sucks for waiting to get help :( Had a bit of a meltdown the other day due to feeling useless. Exhaustion doesn't help either.
And don't feel guilty for not coping well. This disease is hard on the mind and emotions as well as our body. The good thing is we have this wonderful place to come and have people who actually understand here. :D

Just an update I've seen consultant and surgeon and I'm scheduled for surgery on 3/02/14 to remove the narrowing in my small bowel! Soo relieved they are doing something to help me! Struggling to get out of bed everyday just hoping and praying this is the answer x

Did they tell you it is Crohn's yet?
Why would the doctors give you the medication for Crohn's without a diagnosis?
I'm not trying to dismiss your symptoms in anyway, but I get very angry when a doctor hands aggressive treatment to a patient without a diagnosis...
As there are other painkillers etc to take prior...

Sorry thought I'd put crohns diagnosed in 2011! I'm really lucky to hav fabulous medical team who really are wonderful! Nothing moves fast enough when your in pain and no life😔 starting to think there is a light at end if tunnel 😊 fingers crossed x
Unfortunately most other pain killers disrupt the bowel! Wish they didn't sometimes though hey x

All good...
Yeh I have just been told by my specialist not to touch any painkillers except paracetamol... It does nothing, so is prefer not to take anything...

I know the only plus of bring in hospital was paracetamol given on a drip! That stuff worls☺ Like morphine! Shame it doesn't work like that in tablet form hey x

Yep I have the same symptoms! Narrowing of the ileum and constipation and pain, extreme fatigue too! I have 2 young boys and trying to keeps part time job. Its hard to stay positive when you have so many set backs with meds not working. I had a anaphylactic reaction to Imuran, infliximab, an many others! Having a colonoscopy in the morning to asses wether the current damage requires a resection :(
Keep us posted on your progress
Were all in the same boat here!

HI Buttercup, good to hear you'll have an MRI.I had a stricture,a blockage,in the upper part of my duodenum. It was found through an MRI and sonogram.I had a small resection.I went into the ER because of intense abdominal pain. Many hours later I had emergency surgery for the blockage. This was my introduction to crohn's.I also feel very tired from time to time, like you described. It comes out of nowhere and I feel like I could fall asleep on my feet.I take iron and vit.C(to help it absorb) as well as D and B-12.These seem to help and I get hit with exhaustion less often. My surgery was in November,Thanksgiving week, and I don't see my GI until February.I've been using the forum to guide me until then.My point of this ramble is I feel the MRI,sooner rather than later, could help you and I'm happy you are going on Wed..

Just a quick update, had my colonoscopy today, turns out I have significant narrowing and inflammation in the small bowel and some superficial ulceration (?) soooo I need to have surgery :( on the upside the GA they gave meant I felt nothing this time! :)

Hi Buttercup. My post surgery I had a tube,I forget what they called it,down my throat to empty my stomach of waste. That was in for 2 days, annoying but needed.I couldn't drink and used a swab dipped in water to moisten my mouth with the tube inserted.Once it was out I could drink water,a little at a time, but no food.I had to wait for my guts to 'wake up'.This is different for each person I was told and depends on the severity of the surgery. It was four days until my first bm,a slight amount, but proof my bowels were working again. The nurse gave me a high five!I stress the importance of walking as soon as you are able.Wheel your IV and shuffle up and down the hallways. My ward had 'trail maps' and mileage for the trails. The walking helps your bowels wake up and also helps with the boredom. My resection incision was closed with staples.I also had four incisions in my abdomen that were used for scoping. Those were closed with sutures. The staples are removed at your post-op visit and the sutures dissolve by themselves. You will most likely get heparin shots in the a.m. and p.m.to help prevent blood clots. They burn but only for a few seconds.I was injected in my thighs.I had the IV until I was hydrating myself. My urine output was measured daily.I was started on morphine for pain and was switched to dilauted.I had my vitals checked every two hours and blood work done each day at 3a.m.I did not sleep very much.I won't lie,it's a bit rough right after surgery. You have to remember you will improve daily and stay positive.I had great nurses that supported me and that helped. My first food in six days were saltine crackers on Thanksgiving evening with my wife.Ironic or what?I was truly thankful I was able to eat those crackers.I was told if I could keep fridays meals down and continue to have bm's I could leave saturday afternoon.I did go home saturday afternoon, seven days in all in the hospital.Take it easy when you get home and don't rush things! My staples came out after one week, done in the Dr.'s office. The staples can be a nuisance because clothing can get snagged on them.I felt much better once they were out.I saved a dilauted dose and took it before my staples were removed. It didn't hurt to have them removed and the dilauted did help me relax.I hope this helps, feel free to ask me anything else.

It is good to be prepared and you are very welcome. You can post or IM me any time you want.I'm happy to help, that's what the forum is about.I'm actually 2 days post-op from an hernia surgery!I lifted something that was heavier than it looked no more than 20 min.home from my resection and had severe pain in my groin. It is a inguinal hernia and not incisinal.I had to let my body heal enough from the resection before having the hernia surgery. So be very careful when you first get home!My resection incision healed well and the 4 incisions for the scopes are also doing fine.I am still in remission:smile:!I forgot to say I lost a lot of weight that week in hospital.Just a heads up to be prepared for some potential weight loss.Don't let it freak you out.Don't be foolish like me when you get home and you will do fine. :ghug:

Hi Buttercup,I'm letting my body rest and being good.If I did something foolish to prolong recovery(again)my wife would chuck me out in the snowbanks. My wife has been awesome!I want to heal and be able to get out and give her some much needed alone time. The 2nd surgery so close to the first was hard for her to handle.Soon I will be able to take the dogs and we can go somewhere for a few hours.I will be back to work and contributing $ again! That alone will help ease some stress.Remember you can still hug your kids without picking them up.It will only be for a short time.Your husband will forget how you drove him nuts pre-surgery when he see's you made it through o.k..Then you can drive him nuts post-surgery :ylol:
