Feel doctor's aren't taking me seriously

Hi I've suffered with constipation most of my life but over the last two years have had pain in my stomach and have had to have surgery for an anal fistular in April of this year. Over the last couple of months the pain in the left hand side of my stomach has worsened and I have visited my gp many times regarding it and also been to a&e as I started to pass mucus and blood, on that visit I was given codeine to take home and sent away and only had my blood pressure and temperature taken....last week I was given movicol to take but it did nothing so back to the doctors I went and was given laxido to take but its left me in agony and my stomach has been constantly swollen, I am due to have blood tests done next week to check to see whats going on but do feel as though no ones listening. Could anyone please help and at least give me some info as to what this might be. Many thanks x

It's so frustrating when doctors don't take you seriously. If I were in your situation, I think I'd request a FCP test and maybe a colonoscopy with a GI.

Hope you get answers soon!

Hi there.
I know exactly how you feel! I have had stomach pains, and every symptom of crohn's disease for around 10 years. I was in hospital having a fistula infection removed around 5 years ago. Since then I demanded tests as I knew that something was not right. The 'specialists' kept letting me know that I was 100% heathy. I was off work for around a minimum of two months every year and it wasn't fair on my employer, let alone my family! I was beginning to lose patience with the medical system here in Australia until I found a doctor who took the time to listen to me. He is a regular GP not a 'specialist' but he kept fighting for me and forced those overpaid 'doctors' to do their job until the found the problem. Surprise! Med-sev crohn's disease!

I'm not saying that you definitely have Crohn's but I think you need to find a doctor who you are confident will follow you through till you find the source and the cure.

Best of luck and I would love to hear how you progress

Cheers, Luke

Thank you it is very frustrating my gp put me on tramadol for the pain which has knocked me out over the last couple of days but like you say its unfair on the family to. I intend to keep pushing rill I have an answer as to what is causing this at least if I knew it was crohns or uc I could then deal with it a lot better

Hopefully you don't have anything too serious but if it continues, don't give up! Life is too short to feel bad all the time. Do your own research and keep up your own remedies ie drinking plenty of water heathy diet, etc. and keep going back to the doctor until they refer you to a specialist. If they still don't find anything keep returning until they find out what is going on. I know how hard it is when you are sick, but you have the right to live life without illness!

Good luck, and I won't stop checking back in here until you know what is going on!

P.s. I think it speaks volumes that they prescribed tramadol which commonly causes constipation when you said above that is one of your complaints! ?!?

If there is any problem with your stomach , then CT scanning or Colonoscopy would be better to find out a cause.

I actually put in a complaint at the hospital yesterday as they said I'd be seen ten weeks after my op and eighteen weeks later and many phone calls later to the department from me and also my gp they still weren't making the appointment but within four minutes of making a formal complaint I had a call to say I'll be seen next week. This is the worst my stomach has been over the last week if I'm honest and the first time I've been given tramadol as the pain was unreal and i have an extremelly high pain barrier but it is worrying me as I don't know if this is the first of many, I will keep pushing for an answer as being a mum to three children to three children the youngest being four I owe it to them also. Thank you so much for you for your support and for listening =)

Im sorry to hear that you are going through pain like this, but am very happy to hear that you are standing up for yourself, and it sounds like your GP is starting to back you too. I really hope they can figure it out for you soon and you can be there for your kids. Stay strong and don't keep the faith in yourself. If the pain slows by itself, don't stop pushing for an answer because it will be back before you know it if left untreated!
Good luck!
Keep me posted 😌
