Hi Ceclilia,

I've moved your thread here to the treatment forum and changed the title to something more descriptive so others might be more inclined to reply.

I hope you feel better with the flagyl :)

Hey Cecilia :) I'm just wondering why you're being prescribed Flagyl as I thought it was normally used to deal with infection? Are you to be on it long term? I've only been on it short term for an internal abscess and it's pretty potent stuff.
It can make you feel a bit yukky with D, nausea etc but that could depend what dose you're on.

Hi cecilialynn,

My son was on Flagyl for 6 months. Three months pre op, 400mgs three times a days, to help keep infection and inflammation under control and three months post op, 200mg three times day, as the Crohn's specialist subscribed to the view that it would help establish and maintain a longer remission.

The brand tablets, Flagyl, were much better as he did not suffer with the taste issues that the cheaper more powdery generic, Metronidazole, produced. In his case, over the 6 months he did not appear to suffer with any side effects whatsoever.

Good luck!

Thankyou everyone. I am on it because i have had major diarhea for the last mth. Had a colonoscopy yesterday and believe im on it for infection. I take it 2 times a day with food. They only put me on it for 14 days so i hope all clears up and i just may be able to leave the house some day soon.:)

I've had flagyl several times in the past. It does trigger many side effects in my case: almost constant mild nausea, long lasting headache (up to 72 hours in a row), yeast infection, thrush and considerable tiredness. To be honest, I feel sicker (generally speaking) when I am on flagyl than without it but it really does the job on clearing what needs to be cleared. I was taking it for fistula and it would bring me relief on that aspect.

Normally I try to take good probiotic while I am on it to try lessen the "fungal" side effects. It helps a bit!

With luck you won't be dealing with these side effects!
Good luck!

Oh! The main thing is...don't consume alcohol while you are taking it or for 72 hours after completion! Has the potential to cause some major vomting, abdo cramping, headaches.

awful awful stuff... I am sure it works but I throw up on it and I now refuse to take it unless its IV and they are chasing it with Zofran. I was on it for Peri Anal Abscesses and fistulas... I didn't notice it helping me either..
