Follow up with GI

Had my follow up with my GI this week and I am still not in remission. Blood work is still showing some inflammation. Pentasa has been bumped to 1000mg 4 times a day. He gave me some Hyoscyamine to help with the pain, unfortunately it does not seem to work.
So I guess I will be seeing the pain specialist.

It is my understanding that Pentesa is used as treatment for mild cases. Now if you have pain and your bloods show you still have inflammation I am wondering why they are not looking into a more substantial med instead as the Pentesa surely isn't working? Have any other treatments been mentioned to you?

Pentasa is first line light stuff. Never did anything for me. Ask how long till you should expect results and consider a change.

I was told Pentasa helps keep you in remission. How long have you been diagnosed for? I was put on Pentasa 1st for a few months, then went onto aza when I didnt get better. Its a very long process of trial and error unfortunately. Stronger drugs seem to have worse side effects (although luckily Ive had no ill effects so far)

Thanks everyone for the replies! I was diagnosed in June with mild to moderate Crohn's. My GI is very conservative. I started with just budesonide 9mg, next he added 1500 mg Pentasa and decreased the budesonide to 6mg and just now increased the Pentasa to 4000mg and kept the budesonide at 6mg. He has mentioned other meds, but like I said he is very conservative! I do not have any bleeding, so thankful for that! I alternate between the big D and big C with abdominal pain. The pain worries me that the Crohn's is getting worse, plus it is hard to sleep! I see the GI again in March, if I don't see any improvement soon I will try to see him earlier.

Hi, defintely try and get an appt sorted for Jan if you can. You already have bloods showing you have inflammation and you really don't want to be on a full flare up before you are given anything stronger. The idea is to try and catch these things before they get too bad.
